He moved to Akron, OH where he resided for 20 years before moving to Florida in 1982 with his loving wife and family. After working for Marion County for 10 years, he retired. His best times spent were with family and friends, playing and watching his grandchildren and the most important time was being with his best friend, his wife of 40 years, Linda. He was loved and will be missed by all that knew him. He is survived by his wife, Linda, his sister, Diane (Bob), a daughter, Tina, a son, Ray, Jr. (Nicole), six grandchildren and one great grandson. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 910 E. Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala with The Rev. Christopher Murphy officiating. Visitation will be on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Interment will be at Good Shepherd Memorial Gardens. on March 28, 2010.²

     Christy Elijah Sutphin Jr. was buried at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, 5737 Airport Road NW, Roanoke, Virginia.³ He married Norma Jean Sink, daughter of Robert Edward Sink and Mary Ellen "Honey" Wimmer.^1,5 Christy Elijah Sutphin Jr. was born on May 18, 1934 at Roanoke Co., Virginia.² He died on May 10, 2019 at Virginia at age 84.³ He Christy Elijah Sutphin Jr. of Roanoke, Va., went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 10, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, Christy E. Sutphin Sr. and Sallie P. Sutphin; wife, Norma Jean Sutphin; son, Eric W. Sutphin; and two sisters, Freda Drumheller and Pearl Matheny. He is survived by his loving companion, Phyllis A. Womack; daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry S. Davis and Donnie, and Sonja S. Campbell and Grant; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and friends who he loved dearly; as well as a special nephew, Larry Gibson and wife, Dot; and special lifetime friends, Steve and Betty Chocklett. He loved to hunt and go to the Flea Market and he was a man who loved his family dearly and will be missed by all. There will be a time of visitation from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 until 8 p.m. on Monday, May 13, 2019, at Oakey's North Chapel. Services will be held at noon on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at Oakey's North Chapel with the Rev. Eddie Gallimore officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. on May 13, 2019.³

Graveside services will be held Friday, February 19, 1993, at 3 p.m. at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, with the Rev. Larry Atkin officiating. on February 19, 1993.²

He was born March 20, 1926, in Roanoke, Va., a son of the late John and Gaines Walton Furrow. He was also preceded in death by brother, Johnny Furrow. Mr. Furrow was a Disabled World War II Army Veteran, a member of the House of Prayer in Roanoke and was a retired Nursing Assistant from the VA Medical Center in Salem. He is survived by his loving wife, Doris Dunman Furrow; two daughters, Debra Furrow Whitt and husband, Charles and Tina Gail Hastings; two brothers, Edward Furrow and wife, Evelyn and Ira "Sonny" Furrow and wife, Lillian; sister, Winona Carr; four granddaughters, Darrah McDermott and husband, Ryan, Dana Grubbs and husband, Robert, Lisa Crumley and husband, Michael and Carla McComas and husband, Bobby; nine greatgrandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews and many special friends and neighbors. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, January 6, 2011, at John M. Oakey and Son, Salem. He served his country in the U.S. Navy, was retired from employment at the VA Hospital, and was a 1972 LPN graduate of Burrell Memorial Hospital. A gentle, loving, devoted husband and father, he is survived by his wife of 47 years, Winona F. Carr; two sons, Joseph and James and daughter-in-law Elaine of Salem; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Skip Hill of Little Rock, Donna and Michael Hamlin, Barbara and Gary Beaman all of Salem; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, David and Bernadine Carr of Seattle; sister and brother-in-law, Marguerite and Robert Muller of San Jose. Funeral services will be at the graveside, Sherwood Memorial on May 11 at 10 a.m. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 10, 1995 at Lotz in Salem from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the Ft. Lewis Rescue Squad. on May 9, 1995.²
