He was born May 3, 1934, in Ashland, the son of the late Percy H. and Myrtle Leep Simpson. He retired from Armco Steel (Union Wire Rope) and was a former employee of Wal-Mart. He volunteered as a cook at the Sparrows Nook and also volunteered at the King's Daughters Medical Center Hospitality House and for River Cities Harvest. He attended Crum Chapel, was a U.S. Navy and Army veteran and loved his Kentucky Wildcats. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, JoAnn Caldwell Simpson; two sons, Rick Simpson and wife Ginger of Ashland and Mark Simpson and wife Leah of Ashland; four grandchildren, Rachel (Jason) Manning, Ricky Simpson, Alec Simpson and Aaron Simpson; two great-grandchildren, Jonas Manning and Jossalyn Manning and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011, at Miller Funeral Home in Ashland by the Rev. Bill Smith and the Rev. Mike Rice. Entombment will follow at Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be Mark Salyers, Mark Long, Chris Long, Bobby Phillips, Mitchell Wright and Keith Henson. Military services will be by Kenova American Legion Post 93. on December 1, 2011.5
