Eanes, 29, a former Roanoke police officer and former state trooper, was dead early Saturday morning in Fluvanna County 10 miles east of Charlottesville. Police Sgt. M. F. Ritter said that Eanes had been dead about 10 days. Dr. A. C. Whitley, Fluvanna County medical examiner, was not able to determine the cause of the death. The body was sent to the state medical examiner in Richmond for examination. There was nothing at the scene, near Mt. Effort Church off Virginia 53, to indicate foul play. An investigation could not find any indication of carbon monoxide, Sgt. Ritter stated. Eanes had a shotgun in his station wagon, but it had not been fired. Investigating officers had not been able to locate any other weapon. Eanes resigned his state police job several weeks ago. He had been reported missing by his wife about 10 days ago and had been the object on an intensive search since then. He was stationed in the Charlottesville area. Eanes was found in his car in a clearing in a wooded area that was difficult to spot from the air. The Fluvanna County sheriff's department was notified of the discovery Saturday morning.
