Survivors include a son, Jerry Shaver, of Copper Hill, daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Louise and Doyle Cross, of Marion, Betty Henderson, of Vinton, and Nancy S. and Willie King, of Bent Mountain; five grandchildren and their families; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Norma Colene Martin, of Rocky Mount; a special niece, Linda Casey; and many nieces, nephews and their families. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 10, 2008, at the Copper Hill Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Morris Wright, the Rev. Kenneth Crook and the Rev. Mike Sage officiating. Interment will follow in the Copper Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2008, at Maberry Funeral Home, Floyd. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Copper Hill Cemetery, c/o Charles Smith, 8358 Deer Run Dr. S.E., Copper Hill, Va. 24079. Lawrence was owner and operator of Poff's Garage on Bent Mountain. He enjoyed many years of being involved in drag racing, owning and maintaining cars for circle track racing, and restoring his classic 1957 Chevrolet convertible. Lawrence made many friends and acquaintances while pursing his passion for cars. He was a past member of the Army Reserves and attended Mount Union Church of the Brethren. Lawrence is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Carolyn; his son, Kevin; brother-in-law, Ron Sink; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dolores and Hugh Simpson; and special nieces, nephew and cousins. The family would like to thank Skyline Nursing and Rehab nurses and staff for their kindness and excellent care during this difficult time. The family will receive friends from 4 until 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2019, at Oakey's South Chapel. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, 2019, at Oakey's South Chapel with the Rev. Greg Fleshman officiating. on May 31, 2019.4

Greg attended Iowa Western Community College and graduated from Iowa State University. He was united in marriage March 19, 1991 to Carla Christmas. Greg farmed with his brother, Mark in the Clarinda area. In addition to farming, he also worked for Black Plumbing. Greg had a great sense of humor and enjoyed life. Family and friends were very important to Greg and he enjoyed being with them, whether at the coffee shop, playing practical jokes or rooting for the Iowa State Cyclones. He enjoyed traveling and taking off with Keane in the truck. Greg was a quietly generous person, helping those with a need. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Clarinda. Preceding Greg in death were his parents; brother, Jack Holt. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Carla Holt of Clarinda; step sons, Michael Garcia of Barstow, Calif. and Joshua Garcia and wife Ivone of Las Vegas, Nev; step grandchildren, Max and Mia, Alexis, Allina and Mark; brother, Mark Holt and wife Terry of Clarinda; much loved nieces, Lauren and Jenna Holt; and many, many friends. Greg will missed by his many friends and loving family. He will be missed for his sense of humor and love and loyalty. He will be in their hearts forever. May God grant comfort and peace to those who mourn his passing. on February 8, 2014.2
