In high school he played the trombone in the Sigourney Marching Band performing for dignitaries coming to town. He joined the 113th Cavalry of Iowa's National Guard in 1928 and when discharged was a Technical Sargeant. In the 1940's he moved to Chicago to work in a silkscreen and embossing business. He married Katherine Russell on Oct. 1, 1946. He was a longtime member, decon, elder and 15 yr. Clerk of Session of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church. He taught the junior high confirmation classes, was a member of the choir and taught in church school at St. Andrew's. He was chairman of the Spiritual Life Committee of Geneva Place Presbyterian Home. He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Ann McManus of St. Charles, Ill., and Ellen Gooday of Crest Hill, Ill; two sons, Russell of Santa Monica, Calif. and Perry of St. Charles, Ill; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a niece, Wilma Flander of What Cheer; and a nephew, John Knox of Fort Madison. Survivors include her husband, Lynn; three sons, Gilbert Herrick Jr. of Springdale, Ark., Dean Herrick of Mount Pleasant and Harry Landers of What Cheer; and a brother, Harold Hauschild of Hayesville. on March 5, 1997.¹

     Verna Jane Herrick Verna Jane Landers, the daughter of G. Lynn and Helen Hauschild Herrick was born June 25, 1938 in Delta, Iowa. She was graduated from Delta High School in 1955 and later attended Indian Hills Community College. On October 15, 1955, she married Harry Landers at the Methodist Church in Delta. She worked for the State Human Services Office in Oskaloosa. She played the organ for the Baptist Church in What Cheer and was a Pythian Sister. She had been very active in 4-H as a leader and advisor. Those left to mourn her passing are her husband, Harry; her children Jeffery, Sharlene and Sharon and their spouses, Cathie Landers, Tony Bos and Don Cline; three grandchildren, Jill and Joseph Cline and Katy Landers; her parents, Lynn and Helen Herrick of Delta; two brothers, Gilbert Herrick, Jr., of Oskaloosa; Dean Herrick of Mt. Pleasant.⁴ She was buried at Garrett Cemetery, Delta, Keokuk Co., Iowa.⁶ Her Social Security Number was 483-40-1250.⁷ She was born on June 25, 1938 at Delta, Keokuk Co., Iowa.^1,4,7,2 As of October 15, 1955,her married name was Landers.⁴ She married Harry Leon Landers on October 15, 1955 at Delta, Keokuk Co., Iowa.^3,4 Verna Jane Herrick died on August 30, 1987 at Iowa City, Johnson Co., Iowa, at age 49.⁶

     Oliver Lewis Conner was buried at Conner Cemetery, Sigourney, Keokuk Co., Iowa.^6,2,3 He was born on January 7, 1862 at Sigourney, Keokuk Co., Iowa.^2,3 He married Lydia A. Hart on July 23, 1884 at Sigourney, Keokuk Co., Iowa.² Oliver Lewis Conner died on July 25, 1890 at Illinois at age 28; Killed on a train while he was working in Illinois.^6,2,3
