Lorena was born May 22, 1935, to Morgan W. Orfield and Fannie Harris Orfield in Abingdon. She graduated from Bethel High School in Abingdon and Business College in Roanoke. Lorena was an employee of Hill's Department Store in Roanoke and loved to paint pictures, work crossword puzzles and to cook. On June 20, 1959, She and James Wendell Prillaman were married in Roanoke, VA. Lorena was a member of Colonial Presbyterian Church in Roanoke. She loved God and was always quick to acknowledge it to others. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Alesia Hope Prillaman; her sisters, Dorothy Price and Lena Fern, and her brothers, Silas Orfield, Perry Orfield and Jack Orfield. Lorena and Wendell had three children, James Wendell Prillaman Jr., Alesia Hope Prillaman and Randall Clay Prillaman; grandsons, Tyler Prillaman and Ryan Prillaman. Alesia Hope Prillaman went to be with the Lord May 22, 2002. Survivors include her husband of 52 years, James Wendell Prillaman Sr., sons, James Wendell Prillaman, Jr. and wife, Sharon, of Vinton, Randall Clay Prillaman and wife, Rebecca, of Kingsport, Tenn; grandchildren, Tyler and Ryan Prillaman, of Vinton; sisters, Hazel Harris, of Johnson City, Tenn., Mabel Minnick, of Universal City, Texas; brothers, Dale Orfield and wife, Janette, of Abingdon, Hike Orfield and wife, Betty, of Abingdon, and Roger Orfield, of Beaver Brook, Pa; numerous nieces and nephews. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park, Boones Mill. on April 11, 2012.³

Surviving are her father and mother, James Wendell and Lorena Orfield Prillaman of Roanoke; two brothers, James W. Prillaman, Jr. and his wife, Sharon of Vinton, Randall C. Prillaman of Hendersonville, N.C. She has two nephews, Tyler and Ryan Prillaman of Vinton. The family wishes to thank Dr. William Fintel, Dr. Timothy Hormel, and Dr. David Randolph, and the many nurses and staff of Lewis-Gale Hospital who gave excellent and loving care to Alesia. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park in Boones Mill. on May 24, 2002.³

A loving father and grandfather who enjoyed music and travels. Mr. Wrenn was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Letha A. Wrenn; his father, Lacie H. Wrenn; mother, Ollie Griffin Wrenn Hine; his stepfather, Henry Hine; three brothers, James, Robert and Douglas Wrenn; and sister, Geneva Burcham. Wilbur retired from Allied Chemical after 16 years of service, a member of Woodlawn Presbyterian Church and a WW II U. S. Navy veteran.      Clarence Melvin "Soddy" Groat was buried at Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News, Virginia.³ His Social Security Number was 134-03-5146.⁵ He was born on February 5, 1916 at Brantford, Ontario, Canada.^5,3 He married Sarah Pauline Prillaman, daughter of Mawyer Prillaman and Ocie May Guthrie, circa 1947.^1,3,4 Clarence Melvin "Soddy" Groat died on October 6, 1998 at Newport News, Virginia, at age 82.^5,2 He NEWPORT NEWS — Clarence "Soddy" M. Groat, a member of the Newport News Baby Dodgers professional baseball team after World War II, died Tuesday. He was 82. Mr. Groat had played semi-professional baseball, football and basketball. His first professional experience as a regular was with the Rochester Iroquois lacrosse team from 1937 to 1941. "Football was his first love, though he played professional baseball,'' said his son, Gil Groat. Soddy's first paying job in baseball was with the Boston Braves. He was shipped to their farm club in Leesburg, Fla., in 1938. He hit .289 and helped his club to the league pennant. In 1940 he went to a Cincinnati farm team before going into the Brooklyn Dodgers chain at Montreal. World War II interrupted his sports career and threatened to end it as he served from 1942 through 1946 serving in the infantry in Europe. He was awarded the Purple Heart, the Silver Heart and the Bronze Star. He was blinded for 45 days but recovered in time to get part of the 1946 season in Montreal. Soddy, a centerfielder, was then shipped to Newport News to play with the Baby Dodgers. He played there again in 1947 with such teammates as Chuck Connors and Gil Hodges. Hodges was his roommate and namesake for Soddy's son. Soddy took up full-time Peninsula residency in 1951. From then to 1970 he was a restaurateur who owned both the Knotty Pine and the Cross Roads Inn, located near Fort Eustis and Interstate 64. He then began coaching youth programs and directed Peninsula Catholic to a championship in baseball. Soddy was chosen coach of the year in 1976 in the Tidewater Independent School Conference. "On of my dad's most memorable accomplishment for himself was when he was stationed in the Army at Fort Lee. His Army team played against the New York Giants, and he had a 74-yard touchdown. The Army went on to win the championship that year," said Groat. Soddy was a full-blooded Mohawk Indian born Feb. 5, 1916, on the Brantford Ontario, Canada, reservation, one of 13 children. His family moved to Buffalo, N.Y., in 1923, and he was active in sports at Riverside High School, where he graduated from in 1935. He had several college scholarship offers but turned them down in favor of turning professional. Soddy was a former member of the Merrimac Club, the Warwick Yacht and Country Club, the Lafayette Yacht Club and the former White Hall Club of Newport News. Less than 10 years ago, he was inducted to the Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame. "My father was very quick to smile and never met an enemy. What I admire most about him was that he was always very calm. He taught us the importance of family," said Groat. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Pauline Prillaman Groat, and his son, Gil David Groat, both of Newport News; two sisters, Anne Jones and Leone Shotwell, both of Buffalo, N.Y; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 12:30 p.m. Friday at Hidenwood Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Micki Vanderbilt and Father Peter Tran of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. on October 8, 1998.³
