She was in the Fidelis Sunday School Class and organized the Be Active and Live Longer (BALL) senior adult group. Mary June also served as past-president of Roanoke Valley Baptist Senior Adults Association. Mary June was a life member of the Rebekah Lodge #98 and was elected Grand Noble in 1997. She served as past-president of American Business Women's Association and was awarded Business Woman of the Year. She was past-treasurer of Virginia Association of American Medical Assistants and volunteered as a Cub Scout Leader, member of the Salem LOA group, Widowed Person's Services & Training Group and Salem Woman's Club. She was selected as Older Worker of the Year in 1996. Mary June will also be remembered as an avid ballroom dancer. She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Dalton Ealton Thompson Sr. She is survived by her daughter, Marsena T. Hartless; and son, Dalton Ealton (Ed) Thompson Jr. and his wife, Vada O. Thompson. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Heather H. Ritter, April T. Pratt, Meredith H. Wilson, Mitzi T. Martin, and Lana L. Thompson; and ten greatgrandchildren, Will and Jordan Pratt, Kaitlyn and Madison Martin, Indigo and Talon Ritter, and Faren, Sawyer, Zach and Seth Wilson. She is survived by daughter, Karen L. Bennett, of Kings Mountain, N.C., two grand-dogs (miniature schnauzers), Gracie and Lillie Bennett; sisters, Rebecca Ann Foley, of Hardy, Va., and Helen and brother in-law, Luther Okes, of Lynchburg, Va; stepson, James A. Hinton, of Vinton, Va., stepgrandchildren, William Hinton and Lori Pilcher; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Also left to cherish her memory at Salem Health & Rehabilitation are Unit 2 staff, many friends and the residents, whom she fondly referred to as "her residents". Mrs. Hinton spent much of her adult life in the Washington, D.C., and Maryland area where she was a wife, working mother and lovingly raised her children. One of her greatest joys was helping others which was demonstrated when she joined the Red Cross as a Grey Lady and worked at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. After the death of her husband Clarke, she moved to Burlington, W.Va., where she worked at Burlington United Methodist Family Services'. She loved the teens at Craig House and raising money for them. Mrs. Hinton has resided at Salem Health & Rehabilitation Center for 10 years and has served as President of the Resident Council for the past seven years. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Gardens in Salem. on January 9, 2011.6

     Roger Dale Wilson Sr. Roger Dale Wilson, Sr. of Lynchburg, age 87 passed away on Tuesday, July 11, 2023. He was born on November 8, 1935 in Lynchburg Va., the son of Oscar Reginald Wilson and Frances Virginia Creasy Wilson. He was twice widowed, Celine Joubert Wilson whom he always referred to as the love of his life, and Emily Winter Wilson. Also preceding him in death were brothers Douglas Wilson of Lynchburg and Edward Wilson of Bedford. Dale retired from the Greater Lynchburg Transit Company where he was a bus driver for 18 years. Prior to that he drove tractor trailer for Commercial Transport Co. He was a graduate of Bedford High School class of 55. He was active in sports having earned 12 varsity letters for football, basketball,track,and baseball during that time. He served in the United States Marine Corps for 2 tours attaining the rank of Sgt. He attended the UVA and earned an Associate Degree in Business Administration from LaSalle University. He was a life member of the Virginia Jaycees, having served in many offices, the last being the National Director in 1968-1969 in which he was nominated as one of the top 100 young men of America. After his family, the other love of his life was his beloved Marine Corps. He was a life member of the 2nd Marine Division Association, life member of the DAV, and a life member of the Marine Corps League Detachment #759 in Lynchburg. He was also a member of the Marine Corps Association, Military order of the Devil Dogs, the Beirut Veterans of America, 8th& I Marine Reunion Staff as well as several other Veterans organizations. He was at one time a regular contributor of written stories to “Follow Me”, a bi-monthly magazine of the 2nd Marine Division. The articles were well researched some serious, some humorous, some thoughtful and straight from the shoulder, just the way he lived his life. He is survived by his children, Roger D. Wilson, Jr and fiancé Amy; Douglas Wilson; Sheila Wilson; Mark Hamlet; Brenda Salassi (Steve) all of Lynchburg. God Son Chris Bollinger (Sharon); 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren. Sister: Iris Thomas of Tampa Florida, sisters in law Jean Wilson & MaryAnn Wilson and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.4 He was born on November 8, 1935 at Lynchburg, Virginia.2,3,4 He married Helen Frances Lawson, daughter of James R. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Hester Nutter Sexton; four sons, Paul Daniel of Rives Junction, Mich., Russell Lee and Marvin Edward, both of Jackson, Mich., and Roger Dale of Daniels; four daughters, Mrs. Anna Mae Duty and Mrs. Ester Ruth Weber, both of Rives Junction, Mrs. Doris Marie Rupert of Lennon, Mich., and Mrs. Sandra Kay Hankins of Sterling, Mich; two brothers, Fayetteville and Arnold of Jackson, Mich; three sisters, Mrs. Rosa Rosella Goss of Jackson, Mich., Mrs. Della Epperly of Fayetteville and Miss Emma Sexton of Logan; 21 grandchildren a one great-grandson. on April 26, 1977.1

Burial will follow in Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville. on June 6, 2000.2
