She also joined her parents, Walter and Hattie Conner; and her brothers, Albert and Gary Conner, in the beautiful Heavens above. Jesus opened his arms and told Betty it was time to come home. She was known for her kindness, sense of humor, and definitely the love for her kids that she leaves behind to cherish her memory, Michelle and Randall Whitlock and Candy Bromfield and Bobby; and the greatest loves of all, her grandkids, Caitlin Renee, Russell Logan, Lily Mae, and Tanner Chase; son-in-law, Tim Bromfield; also her sister, Ann Hall Borden; brothers, Walter "Poncho," and Mark (Kitty) Conner; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws; and very special friends, Dorris White, Barbara Guthrie, Linda Moses, and Regina Peeks.      Carl Newton "Bill" Sigmon was buried at Sherwood Burial Park, 1045 Lynchburg Turnpike, Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia.² He was born on July 7, 1928 at Franklin Co., Virginia.^2,10 He married Tressie Rlee Nichols, daughter of Ezekiel Chris "Zeke" Nichols and Ruth Jane Conner, on June 7, 1958 at Callaway, Franklin Co., Virginia.^1,2,4 Carl Newton "Bill" Sigmon died on June 10, 2007 at Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia, at age 78.^2,3 He Carl Newton Sigmon, 78, of Salem (known to most as Bill) departed this world for his Heavenly Home Sunday, June 10, 2007 at the Salem Veterans Hospital surrounded by his loving family who were by his side during his short battle with cancer. Bill was born on July 7, 1928 in Franklin County. He was a Korean War veteran and operated his own Lift & Pump repair business for 30 years. He was a member of Mason Cove Chapel where he had many dear friends. His story telling and sense of humor allowed him to never meet a stranger. Bill was a lover of the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and fishing for many years but his greatest outdoor pleasure was watching his sons and grandchildren play sports. Paw-Paw never missed a game. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Eula and Flem Sigmon; brothers, Wayne and Hamp Sigmon; sisters, Deltha Jefferson and Elsie Furrow; and a grandson, Jacob Sigmon. Left to cherish his memory, his loving and faithful wife of 49 years, Tressie Sigmon; sons, Kenny Sigmon and wife, Marie, Ronnie Sigmon and wife, Carrie, and Andy Sigmon and wife, Cathy; grandchildren, Chris, Caitlin, Nick, Tori, Chase, Dalton and Cory Sigmon; a very special sister, Maxine Sink; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Bobby and Loretta Sigmon, Eugene and Joyce Ann Sigmon, Nicki and Sue Sigmon, Geraldine (Hamp) Sigmon, and Ruth (Wayne) Sigmon .      Stephanie Leigh Hankins Stephanie Leigh Hankins Conner, 56, of Salem, Va., went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, July 18, 2023. She was born on February 22, 1967, in Martinsville, Va. to Douglas and Sandra Hankins. Stephanie was a loving wife, mother and friend. She was a dedicated member of Lakeside Baptist Church and loved working with children in the Youth Ministry. She enjoyed spending time crafting and making gifts for her loved ones. tephanie is survived by her loving husband of 25 years, Robert Conner; three children, Matthew Hankins, Elizabeth Conner and Rachel Conner, as well as her parents and three brothers, Stephen Hankins, Michael Hankins and William “Cricket” Hankins. Interment will be immediately following the service in Sherwood Memorial Park.
