F, b. February 27, 1917, d. February 10, 2012
Ruth Winnette Dyke was buried at Finley-Sunset Hills Memorial Park, 6801 SW Sunset Highway, Portland, Multnomah Co., Oregon.2 She was born on February 27, 1917 at Forest Grove, Washington Co., Oregon.1,3,2 As of December 27, 1941,her married name was Fowler.1 She married Joseph Guy Fowler Jr., son of Joseph Guy Fowler Sr. and Patti Wynette Thrash, on December 27, 1941.1,4 Ruth Winnette Dyke died on February 10, 2012 at Oregon at age 94.1 She Fowler, Ruth Winnette Dyke, 94, Feb. 27, 1917 Feb. 10, 2012. Ruth was born in Forest Grove to Walter Payne Dyke and Lillian May Greenman Dyke. In 1937, she met her lifelong boyfriend, Joe. They both loved music and dancing to the juke box. Ruth graduated from Linfield College, and in 1941, she and Joe were introduced to The Woody Hite Band. There was lots of dancing in those days, at the Uptown Ballroom and other places. The Band and its family was always an important part of their lives. Ruth and Joe were married on Dec. 27, 1941. In March 1942, when Joe was called away to war, Ruth packed up their little duplex apartment in Portland and moved back to Forest Grove with her family and began working at a bank in Hillsboro. After the war, Ruth and Joe settled down in Portland, with a short aside in Pendleton, and eventually in Beaverton (West Slope) and began raising their family. When the children were grown, Ruth began work as an executive secretary, but in her free time she cut loose and learned to ski. She and Joe spent many wonderful weekends on Mt. Hood. In the summers they cultivated their beautiful yard and every Labor Day weekend they took a magnificent camping trip to Central Oregon with their "Camping Group." Ruth and the other women planned famous gourmet meals and entertained with unforgettable skits. During this time too, Ruth and Joe traveled to many fantastic places, including Europe, Hong Kong, Japan and Mexico. They took two memorable Windjammer cruises in the Caribbean on the Yankee Clipper sailboat. During retirement, the "Camping Group" went to Hawaii and camped in A-frame cabins. Ruth and Joe's last big trip was to Costa Rica. Ruth was an active member of Beaverton Bethel Congregational United Church of Christ for over 60 years. A keen reader all her life, Ruth was an avid member of her book club, made up of the women in the camping group. As if her life wasn't already busy enough, she took weekly Spanish lessons, serving as an excellent interpreter on several occasions, and she went to aqua aerobics twice a week for many years. She and Joe also were delivery drivers for Meals-On-Wheels. Ruth is survived by sons, Rick (Pat) and Rob; daughter, Patti Walloch; grandchildren, Zachary, Lindsay and Josh Fowler; Heather Walloch (Tim Duy), Colby (Teresa) Walloch, Nathan Walloch, and Dan and David Fowler; and great-grandchildren, Jack and Elsa Duy and Lily Walloch. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Joe; and by her brothers, Walter and Robert; and sisters, Maridel and Donna. Ruth's family would like to thank the staff at West Hills Village Assisted Living for their friendship and support. Undoubtedly, Ruth and Joe are now dancing together again, likely to Don Hite singing, "Georgia on My Mind." Contributions in Ruth's memory may be made to Meals-On-Wheels. on February 19, 2012.1

Don Edward Thrash was buried at Granbury City Cemetery, Granbury, Hood Co., Texas.3 He was born on February 10, 1928 at Hood Co., Texas.2,6 He married Betty Jean "Jeanie" Tomlinson circa 1949.7,3 Don Edward Thrash died on July 23, 2009 at San Antonio, Bexar Co., Texas, at age 81; The SSDI has a death date of Jul 24, 2009.6,3 He Don Edward Thrash, 81, suffering from a severe head trauma injury, fought the last great battle of his life gallantly, but succumbed peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, July 23, 2009, at a San Antonio hospital. Graveside service: 11 a.m. Thursday, July 30, in Granbury Cemetery. Visitation: 8 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Wiley Funeral Home. Don was born and raised by his parents, Doodle and Thelma Louise Umphress Thrash, in Granbury. He had one brother, Melvin, and a sister, Patsy Lavern. His legacy consists of a long line of many great Thrashes and Umphresses who helped establish the town of Granbury in the 1800s and 1900s. His professional life encompassed much, but it was his personal life that inevitably took him abroad. He served in the Special Operations Division of the U.S. Army during World War II and then re-enlisted during the Korean War. He moved to San Antonio in the 1960s and was a resident of Alamo Heights for more than 40 years. During his later years, he loved going fishing with his close friends, playing dominoes with his buddies on the Austin Highway, researching the historical origins of his family and living the "cowboy" way of life. He embraced life with a passion and touched many people's lives; Don lived a good and fulfilling life. He will be greatly missed. A special thank-you to the pastor and congregation of Sunset Ridge Church of Christ in San Antonio for all of your prayers. Survivors: Beloved wife of 60 years, Jeanie Thrash; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; many other family members; and, of course, all of his close friends who loved him dearly. on July 27, 2009.3
