Martha Kathleen Davis Martha Kathleen Howanick passed away June 12, 2017, one day after her 66th wedding anniversary. She was born on February 13, 1933, to Vigil and Violet Davis, in Bluefield, West Virginia. When Martha was 10, the family with 5 children moved to Columbus, Ohio. She spent her teenage years on a farm that was close to Hilliards, Ohio. Farming requires every member to do their share. Martha's tasks included plowing with a John Deere tractor before she went to school along with other chores. At Hilliard's high school, she qualified for the honor society and won a 4 year scholarship. She attended the University of Southern Mississippi. After graduation, Martha married John Howanick before he began AF pilot training. During their military career, she became a mother of two; a daughter Jacqueline and a son Donald. Her spare time was devoted to being a scout leader to all the girls in our squadron. After our military commitment and the children were old enough, Martha began her diversified career. She was a supervisor of an AF military pathology office, owned and managed children's clothing and furniture store, years later managed a large restaurant and finally became a stock broker. Martha always enjoyed recreational activities: skating, dancing, tennis and distance swimming. She volunteered her time doing community service as a tax preparer, and a Red Cross children's swimming instructor. She was a great companion and a wonderful mother to her children. Needless to say - I miss her.3 She was born on February 13, 1933 at Bluefield, Mercer Co., West Virginia.2,3 As of June 11, 1951,her married name was Howanick.2 She married John Joseph Howanick on June 11, 1951 at Franklin Co., Ohio.2,3 Martha Kathleen Davis died on June 12, 2017 at Lubbock, Lubbock Co., Texas, at age 84.3
