Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to Good Samaritan Hospice. on February 23, 2018.7

Schwarz, Jr. was born in Terre Haute, Ind. in 1924. The family moved to Akron in 1936 and he remained in the area the rest of his life. He graduated from West High School in 1943, immediately went into the Navy and became a Hospital Corpsman after boot camp. In the summer of 1944, at the Jacksonville Naval Air Station he took and passed the entrance exam to the V-12 Program, enabling him to enter the accelerated pre-med program at the University of South Carolina from where he graduated in 1946 (B.S. Degree). He was accepted at St. Louis University School of Medicine on a four year Akron Beacon Journal Knight Scholarship Loan Fund and the G-I Bill. He graduated in 1950 fulfilling a life-long dream. Dr. Schwarz interned at Akron City Hospital from 1950 to 1951. He was one of four interns who persuaded Peoples Hospital (now AGMC) to establish a Family Practice Residency, one of the first. He completed his residency in 1952. He started a Family Practice and three months later was recalled by the Navy (Korean War) where he served most of his two-year stint as a medical officer aboard the U.S.S Renville in and out of the Far East Theater of Operations. When released by the Navy in 1954, he established a successful family practice in Ellet, where he practiced for 23 years. He had fond memories of the many relationships he developed. In 1977 Dr. Schwarz accepted the opportunity to become Director, Health Services at the University of Akron, a position he held until retiring, October 1987. Once again memorable relationships were developed. He was a member of local, state and national professional organizations. He was Board Certified in Family Medicine; had served on senior staff Akron City Hospital; had hospital privileges at AGMC, St. Thomas and Children's Hospitals. Other memberships include Holy Family Church in Stow; Board of Directors Goodwill Industries and Portage Path Behavioral Health Center. His most important membership was being a part of his large family. Preceded in death by parents, Harold and Jean Schwarz; brother, Jim Schwarz, he is survived by wife, Anne (Baron) Schwarz; children and stepchildren: daughters, Leigh (Tom) LaPlante and Linda Baron; sons, Bill (Marzena) Baron, and Harold M. Schwarz III, 'Tadd'; seven grandchildren, Andrew, Tesse, Emily, Daniel, Shane, William and Jake; sisters, Peggy Fimmen and Mary Groves and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Most especially recognized is Aunt Mary Coffield our family Matriarch. For the last 35 years he and his family owned and enjoyed a home at Put-In-Bay giving him the opportunity to indulge in his hobbies; landscaping and gardening, boating, and loving the view, sunsets, winds and waves of Lake Erie. Survivors include two sons, Dale Browning of Crooked Creek and Larry (Sheri) Browning of St. Albans; two sisters, Erma Hanlon of Philadelphia, Pa., and Hope Queen of Florida; two grandchildren, Alan Browning and Jennifer Browning; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, at the Evans Funeral Home and Cremation Services at Chapmanville with Rev. Tim Secrist officiating.
