My grandmother, Louise Fletcher Mullens was of Cranberry Ridge. They lived between Cowen and Gauley Mills between Big Trestle on the flat. The family graveyard is still there. It was at Big Ditch that John Mullens, Goldie's father was born in 1882. He followed the sawmills all of his life and died at the age of 74. (d. ca1956) The Mullens family was living in the are in the 1900's when the railroad came into Camden on Gauley. The family lived in towns were sawmills sprung up, such as Gauley Mills, Camden on Gauley, Harris Siding, Thorn Hill, Coal Siding, Curtin, Cranberry Station, Holcomb and in 1912 ended up in Richwood. Goldies mother, Mrs. Lon Lewis was owner and operator of the Virginia Hotel on East Main Street for 35 years - now known as the Mountaineer Hotel." on July 22, 1981.1 She died on January 30, 1990 at Costa Mesa, Orange Co., California, at age 85.1,8,2
