Gladys Marie Davis Gladys M. Payne, 85, of Casey, died at 3:45 p.m. Friday, May 18, 1990 in Cumberland Nursing Center, Greenup. Funeral Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Markwell Funeral Home, Casey, and burial was made in Block Cemetery, near Greenup. She was born Nov. 2, 1904 in Jasper County, the daughter of Marion and Nellie Connor Davis. She married Fred Payne in 1931; he died in 1954. Also surviving are two daughters, Gloria Ann Bott of Paxton and Dorothy Stewart of Greenup; two brothers, Herman Davis of Sun City, AZ, and Rollo Davis of Greenup; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. One sister also preceded her in death. Mrs. Payne was a retired school teacher of 32 years in the Casey school system and surrounding area. She was a member of the Connor Church of Christ, Areta Chapter Order of Eastern Star #89, and the Retired Teachers Association, Casey. She was a reporter of the Casey News for the Greenup Press for several years. Memorials may be made to the Casey-Westfield High School Scholarship Fund.⁴ She was buried at Block Cemetery, Greenup, Cumberland Co., Illinois.^4,5 She was born on November 2, 1904 at Jasper Co., Illinois.⁴ As of 1931,her married name was Payne.⁴ She married Fred Quincey Payne in 1931.⁴ Gladys Marie Davis died on May 18, 1990 at Greenup, Cumberland Co., Illinois, at age 85.⁴
