Elza was proud of his 68 years of marriage to wife Harriet Ann (Hardesty) Standley, who he married on December 10, 1937, and also his family. In 1946, Elza was honorably discharged from the United States Navy. He was in the Masonic Lodge and B.P.O.E. for 33 years, active in Elks Club and VFW in Muscatine, Iowa, Rotary Club and Kiwanis in Hawthorne, Ca. on December 23, 2005.3

She is survived by three daughters and their spouses, Carol and Richard Sheppard of Shelby, Betty and Paul Yetzer of Galion, and Barbara Griffeth of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two sons and their spouses, Kenneth and Jan West, and Larry and Janet West, all of Shelby; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; and her beloved dog, Tessa. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale whom she married June 3, 1938 and passed away November 22, 2000; parents; and stepbrother, Roy Rush. Friends may call at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, Monday, January 31, from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 1 at 10:30 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, Shelby, officiated by Pastor Steven Bond. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Park. on January 30, 2005.5
