James S. Quesenberry, 44, and Tina Hill Quesenberry, 33, of Carroll County were shot in the head about 10:20 p.m. Tuesday while they sat in a parked car at an apartment complex, authorities said. Their 6-year-old child was in the car but was not harmed, Hillsville Police Chief Kenneth H. Sharp Jr. said. Dennis Earl Stoneman, 43, was arrested near his home in Surry County, N.C., early Wednesday and was being held in jail there pending extradition proceedings, said Glen Nester, chief deputy sheriff in Carroll County. Sharp said Stoneman was arguing with the couple and looking for his wife, Theresa Stoneman. The Quesenberrys were helping her move into the apartment complex, authorities said. Sharp said that Patrolman Leonard Howell found the bodies while on his way to the apartment building to investigate suspected gunshots. While Howell was on his way, the 911 dispatch office received information that there were two gunshot victims in the apartment parking lot. James Quesenberry was a former owner of the Sports Stop in Pulaski County, where he grew up and was active in recreation sports and other community events. Pulaski YMCA Director Jack Leahy recalled that Quesenberry worked as a YMCA program director and always was willing to help with youth basketball. She was a member of the Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Dugspur, Va., and she was an employee of the Wheatland Hills Retirement Home, Hillsville, as their Assistant Director. Surviving are her parents, Joseph H. and Neta B. Hill , Hillsville; son, Ross E. Payne, Hillsville; stepgrandchildren, Sarah Q. Wagner, Mississippi, Mark S. Quesenberry, Fairlawn , Brian M. Quesenberry, Dublin; sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathy and Roger Harris, Floyd, Teresa Stoneman, Hillsville, and Nancy and Roger Beasley, Hillsville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Stephen and Audrey Hill , Houston, Texas, Neil and Margaret Sowers, Roanoke, Steve and Susie Sowers, Hillsville, Junior and Katherine Sowers, Floyd, and Jimmy Hill , Hillsville. Funeral service will be held Saturday 3 p.m. from the Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Dugspur, Va., with the Rev. Allen Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in the Willis Cemetery, Floyd County. on May 18, 1995.8

Visiting will be held Friday evening at Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. There will also be visitation Saturday from 12 noon until service hour at the Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
