Howard Ward "Bud" King Sr. was buried at Copper Hill Church of the Brethren Cemetery, 8838 Floyd Hwy N. US Hwy 221, Copper Hill, Floyd Co., Virginia.9,5,6,10 His Social Security Number was 227-14-2176.11 He Howard King owned and lived on the farm that was formerly owned by his father-in-law, Posey Angle, who married Ocie Conner. This farm has been in the family since a land grant or grants were made to John Thrus (Thrash) before the American Revolution and at least one more grant after the Revolution. There is available a copy of a land grant to John Thrus (Thrash) signed by James Monroe, Governor of Virginia 1799-1809. A colonial style, brick-cased home was built by Valentine Thrus (Thrash), son of John Thrash. An addition to the house was built by Valentine Conner, a grandson of Valentine Thrash. Eloise Angle King lived in the grand old home, the fifth generation from Valentine Thrash. Her sons, Chip and Will Roger, cultivate the same land as did their great-great-great grandfather Valentine Thrash, who is buried in a family cemetery on the property. A high point on the farm is known as Thrash's Mountain. The state road, which partially divides the farm property, is known as King Brothers Road. George Valentine "Felty" Correll1,2
M, b. May 18, 1781, d. February, 1865
George Valentine "Felty" Correll was buried at Correll Cemetery Family, 638 Union Valley Road, Riner, Montgomery Co., Virginia; Buried without a headstone. This cemetery happens to be on top of the mountain behind the house that Giles Radford CORRELL built (grandson of George Valentine "Feltha" Corell, and son of Henry Corell), on which property originally stood the three story log home built by George Valentine "Feltha" CORELL and his wife, Catherine WEAVER CORELL about 1810. This log home was moved, log by log, numbered etc, by Romer CORELL (son of Giles Correll) to his property in Union Valley, and was used as a "smoke house/storage building" for many years. It is still standing today (1999). Originally when George Valentine "Feltha" CORELL died in February of 1865, his wife Catherine had a grave dug in the field beside their home with the intention of starting a new CORELL Family Cemetery. The grave was dug the day before it was to be used and there was a terrible rain storm that night; the dug grave filled with water. Catherine refused to let George Valentine "Feltha" CORELL be buried in the water and demanded that he be taken to the highest point of their property and an cemetery there be placed. It is a beautiful spot when you get there, but you have to be part billy goat to make the climb to the cemetery.1
