One of six children, Ruth was born to Alfred Garrett, Sr. and Etta Beheler Fralin on August 15, 1925 in Franklin County, Virginia. After graduation from Rocky Mount High School in 1941, and a post graduate course in 1942, Ruth worked for the Defense Department in Washington, D.C. until her acceptance to the Roanoke Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Roanoke, Virginia. After graduation she became a registered nurse and continued her dedicated nursing career for the following 30 years in the Roanoke area. In 1976 she retired from nursing when she and her husband moved to Wirtz, Virginia. Ruth was a great cook, an able seamstress, gifted correspondent, and a diligent housekeeper. She loved music, singing and helping others. She enjoyed her friends and greatly enjoyed being active in retirement with her husband, family and friends at Red Valley United Methodist Church. Above all, Ruth was a loving and dedicated wife and mother. She is survived by daughters Carolyn Cole Hill and husband Jack of Wichita Falls, Texas, Andrea Cole Bender and husband Bradley of Draper, Utah; son Alan Barry Cole and wife Kathy of Suffolk, Virginia; daughter-in-law Mary Webb Cole Jamison; grandchildren Stephanie Hill Drury and husband David, Jennifer Hill MacLean and husband Tom, John Sanford Hill III, Randall Aaron Bender and wife Keri, Joel Bradley Bender, Charles Alan Cole and wife Melissa, Christy Ann Cole, Nicholas Aaron Cole, Jonathan Aaron Cole, Garrett Douglas Cole and wife Amy, Maggie Cole Barnes and husband Maurice; great-grandchildren Judah and Rilian Drury, Isabel MacLean, Jacob, Brian, Jada and Brianna Cole, Kenley Cole, Mason Barnes, and Natayla Bender. Also surviving are Ruth's sister Mary Jo Fralin Brown of Rocky Mount, Virginia and brother A.G. Fralin, Jr. and wife Christiane of Lexington, Virginia. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents Alfred and Etta Fralin, sisters June Fralin Graveley, Edith Fralin Arrington, and brother Thomas Franklin Fralin. More recently called to Heaven were her husband of 62 years Aaron J. Cole and beloved son Wade Douglas Cole. A service of witness to the resurrection and a celebration of Ruth's life will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, January 24, 2014 at Red Valley United Methodist Church on Jubal Early Hwy in Boones Mill, Virginia, followed by a graveside committal service. Immediately following the services, the family will receive friends at the church. The family suggests that memorial contributions to Red Valley Methodist Church may be made in Ruth's memory. She was the founder of King's Florist in Salem. Surviving are her husband, Russell E. King, Jr; two sons, Rusty E. King, III; Michael R. King, all of Roanoke; mother and stepfather, Ora and Bud Cooper, Salem; sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and Tommy Brogan, Daleville; mother-in-law and stepfather-in-law, Evelyn King and H. E. Richards, Vinton; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Vivian and Bucky Moore; Debbie and Richard Brogan, Roanoke; two nephews, Todd Moore and Heath Brogan, both of Roanoke; niece, Lenore Brogan, Roanoke; and a very, very special lady. Funeral services will be held at the Cave Spring Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday with Dr. Gordon W. Grimes and the Rev. Charles R. Doyle officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Burial Park.      Russell Eugene King Jr. was born on February 9, 1945 at Roanoke, Virginia.4,5 He married Donna Marie Holloway, daughter of Watson Luther Holloway and Ora Gladys Cole, on August 17, 1965 at Roanoke, Virginia.1,2,4 Russell Eugene King Jr. died on September 24, 2017 at Virginia at age 72.3 He Russell Eugene King Jr., 72, of Boones Mill, Va., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 24, 2017. He loved the Lord and was a past member of Cave Spring Baptist Church, where he was very active teaching Sunday School and being a deacon. Russell graduated in 1964 from William Fleming High School, where he was a running back on the football team. Russell was an avid golfer, sports fan and a car enthusiast. He was very passionate in life especially with his love for the Lord and his family. Russell was founder of King's Florist and worked for over 45 years in the food vending service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Marie King; father, Russell King Sr; and sister, Vivian Moore. Russell is survived by his wife of 16 years, Ellen Flora King; two sons, Russell E. King III and his wife, Ashley, and Michael Robert King Sr. and his wife, Melanie; mother, Evelyn Richards; stepsons, Brandon Page and his wife, Chelsea, and C.J. Page and his wife, Jennifer; two "adopted" children, Tami Healy and Ronnie Baldwin; grandchildren, Russell King IV, Georgia King, Josie King, Annalee Campbell, Ridlee King, Baby King, Michael Robert King Jr., Logan King, Brianna Johnson, Kavyn Page, Aidan Page, Ember Page, Maverick Page and Madison Page; sister, Debbie Brogan and her husband, Richard; niece, Lenore Paradis and her husband, Mark; two nephews, Todd Moore and Heath Brogan; and his dog, Mercedes. A Memorial Service will be held at noon on Wednesday, September 27, 2017, at Oakey's South Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ronald McDonald House in Roanoke, Va. on September 26, 2017.3

Her husband of 61 years, Jack D. Stanley, predeceased her in 2009. Born on February 17, 1925, on Grandin Road in Roanoke, she was a daughter of Clyde S. and Lucy S. Reed, and sister to June R. Morris and Wanda R. Nelson, all who predeceased her. Juanita is survived by her daughter, Sharon Lindsey Stanley and fiancé, Jack L. Watts, and her devoted granddaughter, Sarah Whitney Hobbs of Roanoke. Also surviving are nieces, Linda N. Polhamus, Patricia A. Morris, Cynthia M. Bourgeois, Sheila S. Long, and Cathy Grampp, and nephews, Michael Morris and Larry Stanley. Juanita was a charter member of Grandin Court Baptist Church. She served on the Historical Committee and was a trustee. She was also a volunteer in the Ministry Activity Center. A 1942 graduate of Jefferson High School, Juanita excelled in academics and sports. She was editor of the Latin newspaper and represented Jefferson High School all four years in the State Latin Tournament. She was also a member of the National Honor Society, President of the Girls Athletic Club, as well as the Girls Tennis Champion. She attended American University while working with the Federal Security Agency in Washington, D.C. Her 37-year career of Federal Service was primarily with the Social Security Administration as a Claims Representative and as Operations Analyst for quality control for the district office. Juanita was an avid tennis player and began playing at Fishburn Park at age 12. She won the Roanoke City-County Women's Singles Championship seven times from 1946 to 1951 and 1960. She also won four doubles championships. She was a finalist in the Virginia State Women's Tournament in singles and doubles in 1951. She loved her Saturday morning family tennis at Ridgewood Farms for more than 50 years. She continued to play competitive tennis until 2016 when her daughter and tennis partner, Sharon, broke her arm and could no longer play. Juanita reluctantly hung up her collection of more than 60 tennis racquets. Juanita was recognized by "The Roanoke Times Sports of our Times in 1999" as Number 8 (and the only woman) of the Top 10 "Best of the Rest" in 1940 to 1949 era of athletics in the state. In 2020, Juanita was inducted into the inaugural class of the Roanoke Regional Tennis Hall of Fame in the Player category for her tennis accomplishments. Other hobbies she enjoyed in her younger years included acting and flying a Piper Cub. A "special thank you" to her wonderful caregivers, Sandra Adkins, Linda Watkins, Priscilla Walker and Lynn Price. With their care, she was able to remain in her home until the age of 96. Much appreciation to Dr. Somorin for his kindness and care of Juanita at Lewis Gale Hospital. Interment will follow at Evergreen Burial Park. As mom always said, "I got a good draw." No Mom, WE got the good draw! On June 2, 2021.3
