     Richard Eugene "Rick" Shaffer Jr. was buried at Elk Hills Memorial Park, Big Chimney, Kanawha Co., West Virginia.1 He was born on February 29, 1968.2 He married Lisa Jane Unknown circa 1989.1 Richard Eugene "Rick" Shaffer Jr. died on November 18, 2012 at West Virginia at age 44.1,2 He Richard E. Shaffer Jr., 44, of Elkview, went home to be with our Lord on November 18, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer. Richard was a member of First Baptist Church of Pinch. He was a member of Sheet Metal Workers Local No. 33 and employed at Tri-State Roofing and Sheet Metal. Richard was an instrument rated private pilot; a certified scuba diver; and certified welder. He enjoyed fishing and playing the banjo. Richard was a "Jack of all trades and a master of none." Richard was a loving husband, father, son and brother. He will be remembered most for his zest for life and his courageous, positive attitude and for the belief that anything was possible if you were willing to work and sacrifice for it. His presence will be greatly missed. It is our loss and heaven's gain. He is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Lisa Jane Shaffer; son, Senior Airman Mark Hobert Shaffer and his fiancee, Anna Hubbard; daughter, Amber Dawn Shaffer; parents, Richard Eugene and Mildred E. Shaffer; brothers, Charles Eric "Bub" Shaffer and Tony Lynn Shaffer and wife, April; and brother-in-law, Brian Anderson and wife, Anita. Also surviving are nieces, Dallis Shaffer, Kassie Shaffer, Maria Anderson and Vivian Anderson; nephews, Ryan Pettry and Carlin Pettry; "his other daughters," Morgan Casto and Chelsey Dillard; and his beloved dog, Kasey. Service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 21, at Hafer Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Vince Button officiating. Burial will be in Elk Hills Memorial Park, Big Chimney. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the funeral home. The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Steven Jubelirer and Dr. Harry Duncan for their continual care and support. on November 21, 2012.1

Roy Raymond Shaffer, son of Charles William Shafer and Millie Florence Huffman, on September 18, 1941 at Charleston, Kanawha Co., West Virginia.3,4,2 Dorothy Mae Counts died on August 10, 2001 at St. Albans, Kanawha Co., West Virginia, at age 77.1,2 She Dorothy M. Shaffer, 77, of St. Albans, died peacefully in her sleep, Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, at her residence. She was a member of Parsons Chapel Primitive Advent Christian Church, Charleston. She took care of the elderly in her home, including several family members. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, the Rev. Roy R. Shaffer; grandson, Keith "Toby" Shafer; parents, George Dana and Maggie Counts; sisters, Doris Conn, Bobby Kinison, Nadine Naylor, and Mildred Cotter; brother, Keith Counts. Surviving are: Raymond of Gandeeville, David of Victoria, Texas, Jerry of Lewisburg, and Joe of Dunbar; daughters, Bonnie Legg of St. Albans, and Sandra Kinaid of Gauley Bridge; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Services will be 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 13, 2001, at Parsons Chapel Primitive Advent Christian Church, Charleston, W.Va., with the Rev. Don Young, and the Rev. Roy Moles officiating. Burial will be in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes, W.Va. on August 12, 2001.2

He was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. Roy R. and Dorothy M. Counts Shaffer; and his wife, Pearl Shaffer. Dave attended Elkview schools; was a U.S. Army veteran; and served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He loved to bowl and play golf, and spend time with his family. Surviving are his daughters, Donna Smolder of Charleston and Melissa Shaffer of Waco, Texas; sons, David Lee Shaffer of New York and Benson Shaffer of Victoria; sisters, Bonnie Legg of Charleston and Sandra Kincaid of Gauley Bridge; brothers, Raymond Keith Shaffer of Gandeeville, Jerry Shaffer of Lewisburg and Joseph Shaffer of West Virginia; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home, Charleston with the Rev. William K. Berry officiating. Burial will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes, with military graveside rites accorded by American Legion Post No. 61, Clendenin. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the funeral home. on May 15, 2012.1
