Linda Gail Cruikshanks1,2

F, b. March 14, 1940, d. July 26, 2025
Linda Gail Cruikshanks One of earth's gentlest souls, Gail Cruikshanks Scott, 85, of Vinton peacefully passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025, surrounded by loving family. Gail was born on March 14, 1940, in Bluefield, WV to Charles Edwin and Juanita Hefner Cruikshanks. Her family later moved to Roanoke, VA, where she graduated from William Fleming High School in 1958, and married Sidney Scott Ill in 1967. They became longtime residents of Buchanan, raising their family there and attending Wheatland Lutheran Church before retiring to Vinton and joining St. Timothy Lutheran Church. Gail was a quiet, strong presence, with an ever-present smile. She loved life, people, reading, and being active. She also loved to travel, and over the years, she and Sid explored much of the US and Canada. She embraced the peace of beaches, sandy or rocky, but found no joy driving over the high mountains. Her everyday passions, in no order, were crocheting, scrapbooking and dogs-hers or any that graced her day. Gail is survived by her husband of 58 years, Sid Scott Ill; two children, Kelly L. Sweatt and her husband, William; and Sidney Scott IV and his wife Laura; and five grandchildren: David, Samuel, Matthew, Grace, and Andrew. Graveside services will be held at Wheatland Lutheran Church Cemetery with Dr. James Davis officiating. Special thanks to Good Samaritan Hospice, especially Callie and Jessica, as well as her caregiver, Michelle, for their loving and compassionate care.2 She was buried at Wheatland Lutheran Church Cemetery, 1560 Wheatland Road, Buchanan, Botetourt Co., Virginia.2 She was born on March 14, 1940 at Bluefield, Mercer Co., West Virginia.1,2 As of October 7, 1967,her married name was Scott.1 She married Sidney Martin Scott III, son of Sidney Martin "Scottie" Scott Jr. and Ruth Ilene Christine "Tootsie" Hall, on October 7, 1967 at Roanoke, Virginia.1,2 Linda Gail Cruikshanks died on July 26, 2025 at Virginia at age 85.2
