Mr. Fortune served at the Horizon Residential School in Rural Hall, was Food Service Manager at Glenwood Military School in Illinois and also served in the same capacity at Mills Home for the Baptist Children's Home of Thomasville, N.C. In addition to these previous settings, Mr. Fortune touched the lives of many children as a caregiver and advocate at Glenwood Mills Home, Cedar Ridge Boys Home in Maryland and Youth Unlimited based in High Point. Mr. Fortune is survived by his wife, Shirley Cadd Fortune, of the home; two sons, Timothy and wife, Lisa of Kernersville, Andrew and wife, Christina of Salisbury; a daughter, Nancy and husband, Thornton of Kernersville; plus four grandchildren, Heather, Hannah, Scott and Drew. A 11 a.m. graveside service will be Thursday, May 10, 2001 at Evergreen Cemetery in Roanoke, Va., with the Rev. Malcolm Cadd officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 9, 2001 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. on May 9, 2001.1

Samuel Olin Williams Samuel Olin Williams, 75 years of age transitioned from this lifetime to his eternal rest with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in Heaven on Friday August 30, 2024. He was born on January 31,1949, the beloved Son of Cordelia Dyke Williams and Daniel Green Lowman Sr. Olin carried the Lord in his heart his entire life and was a faithful servant unto the Lord in many churches including his beloved Valley Word Ministries. Olin was a part of the last generation to call Old Northeast Roanoke home always speaking joyfully of his years growing up there. His dedication to and love of children showed in the work that he did. For many many years Olin was a school bus driver for the Roanoke City Public School system affectionately referring to his bus riders as his "bus babies". Olin also donated his time providing driving services at the Gainsboro YMCA and participated in as many activities there as possible adding happiness to the lives of so many people. Olin was the kind of person that never met a stranger. He loved the Lord with all his heart and wasn't ashamed to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with anyone with an open ear. He is preceded in death by his mother Cordelia Dyke Williams, father Daniel Green Lowman Sr., it would be remiss not to mention Gordon Williams Sr. Also, his sons Colin Chappell and Enoch Williams and grandson Isaac Chappell and the myriads of Kings and Queens that were his brothers and sisters. Olin is survived by his wife Stacey Tate Williams, his children Valencia Chappell Smith (Luke), Darrell Jennings (Melissa), Angelo Day (Val), Corey Williams, Eric Day, Antonio Chappell, Maria Williams, Dominique Williams, Samira Williams Paez (Ricardo) and Samara Williams. In addition, literally legions of loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends including his former wife and friend for life Jacqueline Crews Williams and lifelong friend Cecil Duke Brown. And the multitude of family names that make up the family tree that Olin was a part of including the Williams, Lowman, Tate, Dyke, Paez, Flint, Watson, McCrae, Wilson, and Jordan families as well as the Crews Nash and Law families. Olin was also very fond of the Brown family and the Church of the Brethren who orchestrated the construction of he and his wife's home. Know that each and every one of you were deeply loved by Olin.
