Her Christian love and comfort will be missed by all relatives, friends and neighbors. Interment to follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. on June 18, 2002.4

He is survived by his wife, Karen Webb Conner; two sons, Christopher Gaven and David Webb; daughter, Temple Olivia, all at home; grandmother, Ila Conner; parents, George W. and Lucy R. Conner of Salem; two brothers, Ronald E. Conner of Lexington; and George R. (Pete) Conner of Richmond; three sisters, Gay Conner Furrow of Christiansburg; Sharon Conner Coffey of Roanoke Co; Lisa Conner Parker of Salem; eight nieces and four nephews. He was a principal in the Architectural/Engineering firm of Smithey & Boynton, P.C. He also owned and operated the Skate Center of Roanoke Valley and served as panel judge for national roller skating competition. Mr. Conner was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, the American Institute of Architects, the Salem Board of Zoning Appeals, and the Salem Board of Building Appeals. He is well known throughout the State of Virginia and parts of North Carolina in the fields of Architecture and Planning. As a principal of Smithey & Boynton, he held the office of Vice President-Architecture, Planning and Programming. Throughout his career, he has been involved in the design of major projects such as the addition and renovation of the Roanoke Times and World-News building, the Roanoke City Public Works Service Center, the North Wing addition to the Moravian Home in Winston-Salem, NC, The Salem Roanoke County Jail Facility, both the Roanoke County and Salem Courthouses, the Roanoke Area Governor's School, The College of Business building at VPI and SU, The Radford University Master Plan, The Community Hospital of Roanoke Valley, and many other major projects throughout the State. David was born on February 24, 1949 to Emmett and Rhoda Ann Coffey in Roanoke. After David graduated from Andrew Lewis High School in 1967, he joined the United States Navy and served as a fire control technician during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he served with the Salem, VA police department for thirty-two years before retiring in 2004. David was passionate about forensic science and loved his work. In 1970, he met Sharon Conner at Lendy's in Salem. David and Sharon married on September 17, 1971 and went on to have two children, Leslie and Aaron. David was known for his quick wit and humorous nature. He adored his family and his beautiful mini dachshund. He also enjoyed appreciating the beauty of nature, photography, amateur archaeology, and spoiling grandchildren whenever they came to visit. David was predeceased by his parents, Emmett and Rhoda Ann Coffey, and his brother William (Bill) Coffey. He is survived by his wife, Sharon, his two children and their spouses, Leslie (Coffey) and Chad White and Aaron and Katie Coffey, his sisters, Martha Jean (Mark) Petri and Emily Pendleton (Greg Reynolds), and six grandchildren, Hannah, Chloe, Micah, Cooper, Crawford, and Grace, along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. David and family want to extend special thanks to Liz, Travis, and the whole team at Fresenius Home Therapy Crystal Springs. on February 25, 2024.6
