David Huston Chittum, 90, left to reside with our Lord on February 12, 2023, at King's Grant Retirement Community in Martinsville, Va. David was born in Staunton, Va., son of the late Harold T. and Cornelia J. Chittum of Waynesboro. David served in the U.S. Army from 1954 until 1956. He later graduated from the University of Richmond with a degree in Sociology, and then received his Master's degree from Madison College. He began his teaching career at Spencer-Penn Elementary school. David worked for many years with the Martinsville City School System, as a teacher, principal, and social worker as the Visiting Teacher. An avid golfer, he belonged to Chatmoss and Forest Park Country Clubs, where he enjoyed helping others improve their game, as well as his own success which included 17 Holes In One. For many years he enjoyed hunting and fishing as well. David was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Martinsville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his older brother, Hal T. Chittum Jr., and sister-in-law, Betty Chittum. He is survived by two adoring sons, David H. Chittum Jr. and his wife, Mary Kay Kahn-Chittum, of Roanoke, and William Robert Chittum and his wife, Jessica Farnsier Chittum; two grandchildren, Tyler and Aleah Chittum of Jonesborough, Tenn; nephew, Hal Chittum III of Florida; nieces, Ann Chittum of Charleston, S.C., and Janet Sosnoski of Dobson, N.C.4 He was born on August 1, 1932 at Staunton, Augusta Co., Virginia.1,2,3,4,5 He married Jane Norman Henson, daughter of Daniel Norman Henson and Miriam Walters, on August 8, 1959 at Roanoke, Virginia.1 David Houston Chittum Sr. and Jane Norman Henson were divorced on November 22, 1983 at Martinsville, Virginia.2 David Houston Chittum Sr. died on February 12, 2023 at Martinsville, Virginia, at age 90.4,5

     Martin Treish/Thrash Sr. left a will; Last Will and Testament of Martin Treish (Thrash) (Original written in German in Martin Treish's own hand) Know all men by these presents that Martin Treish hath made an Testament which he has signed with his own hand being as followeth. First his younger son Martin Treish shall have the place for and in consideration of sixty pounds I say sixty pounds every year to pay ten pounds till all the sixty have been paid. The woman shall with the children remain on the place until the youngest child is come of age whose name is Anna Barbara Treish. The woman shall yearly have eight bushels of corn and five bushels of wheat, and shall have from the garden the third part of the kitchen garden and the third part of the orchard and shall maintain on the place a cow and a fat hog, and give sixty or seventy pounds of flax seed, also 50 eggs for her maintenance the 29th Oct. 1761.      Delmont Forrie Fleming was born on June 20, 1934 at Pennsylvania.1 He married Sharon Elaine Walters, daughter of Clentus Millard "C.M." Walters Jr. and Dorothy Ella "Dot" Nunn, on September 1, 1968 at Fredericksburg, Virginia.1,3,4 Delmont Forrie Fleming died on May 4, 2021 at age 86.2 He Delmont F. Fleming, 86, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 of heart problems. He was born in a small coal mining town in western Pennsylvania where his dad was a miner. As a teenager, Del worked summers as a rivet heater at the American Bridge Company in Pittsburgh and later as a busboy in a restaurant in Atlantic City to put himself through Eastern College. He graduated in 1959 and received a National Defense Fellowship for graduate school. He completed his Masters and PhD at the University of Pennsylvania. After teaching at Alfred University in New York for three years, he came to Mary Washington College in the autumn of 1966 and joined the English Department where he taught American Literature. His future wife, Sharon, was a student in one of the first classes that he taught there. They were married in 1968. Dr. Fleming served as Secretary of the Faculty for many years and retired in 1992 as Professor Emeritus of English. He is survived by his wife of 52 years and by several nieces and nephews. on May 19, 2021.2
