She graduated from Shell Rock High School in 1941 and earned her teaching certificate at the teachers college in Cedar Falls. She was a teacher at Victory No. 4 country school north of Shell Rock and was employed at Huber's Clothing Store in Clarksville. She worked in the laundry department at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community, Waverly, from which she retired in 1986. Survived by: four sons, Gary (Norma) Olmstead of Cedar Falls, Larry (Karen) Olmstead of Waverly, Steven (Cheryl) Olmstead of Mesa, Ariz., and Frank (Jackie) Olmstead of Queen Creek, Ariz; two daughters, Mardell (Larry) Skinner of Waverly and Janise (Donald) Lebeck of Clarksville; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; a stepson, Dale Greenlee of Des Moines; two stepdaughters, Linda VanHauen and Dorothy (Bob) Oldenburger, both of Clarksville; a daughter-in-law, Jeanette Wiggs of Bentenville, Ark; two stepdaughers-in-law, Sandy Greenlee of Greene and Sue Greenlee of Jefferson; a brother, Marlin (Gleora) Ball of Waverly; four sisters, Verla Endelman of Clarksville, Mary Ella Shorter of Cedar Falls, LaDonna Spencer of Plainfield and Dorene (Don) Miller of Waverly; 11 stepgrandchildren; and 28 stepgreat-grandchildren. She married John H. Reed there in 1892. They came here more than 41 years ago. Mr. Reed passed away in 1940. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Grace Barth of Great Falls, Mrs. Amy Bailey of Livingston, Mrs. Teresa Engbretsen of Great Falls and Mrs. Irene Rowles of Livingston, and seven grandchildren. on February 24, 1946.⁵
