Stephens of Fayetteville, a World War II prisoner of war; her parents; and her brother, Harry Samples of Cross Lanes, W.Va. She is survived by two sons, Steve Stephens of Victoria, Texas, and Jerry Stephens of Fort Worth, Texas; two daughters, Ann Stephens Harris of Fayetteville and Jeanne Jones of Raeford; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, Frank Samples of Marysville, Mich; a sister, Betty Pauley of Mason, W.Va; and an uncle, Russell Paxton of Cross Lanes. She is also survived by first and second cousins too numerous to list and scattered throughout the United States. During her life, Hazel loved life and people to the fullest. Throughout many of her years, she volunteered much of her time and energy to various nonprofit agencies and charities, including the March of Dimes, veterans’ hospitals and numerous church activities. Hazel loved and was loved by many friends and continued to make friends until her last days. Above all, she loved and was proud of her family. on July 18, 2007.5

She was the daughter of the late Spencer G. and Elizabeth Jane Eagle and was the wife of the late Eugene G. Samples of Procious. She was also preceded in death by a son, Kenneth "Hook" Samples. She was the mother of seven additional children: Steve Samples of Pensacola, Fla., Garland Samples of Bickmore, Randy Samples of Wallback, Thelma J. Rhodes of Clendenin, the Rev. Wilma Dobbins of Montgomery, Shelly Edwards of Procious and Lisa Lewis of Clay. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 13 stepgrandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 20 stepgreat-grandchildren and 12 stepgreat-great-grandchildren; to all of whom she was affectionately known as "Big Grandma." Survivors also include two sisters, Bertha Perry of Ohio, Cova Sears of Duck; and two brothers, Clyde Eagle of Kingman, Ariz., Lawrence Eagle of Adonijah. Maycle was a born-again Christian and attended Liberty Advent Christian Church, Procious. She was a devout and loving mother and taught Christ's love by her living example. Graveside service will be conducted at the A.J. Samples Cemetery, Procious. on July 31, 2004.1

He was the son of the late Samuel Lee and Pearl Withrow Hardman of Clay. He served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II and was a member of the battle group to which the Japanese emperor surrendered. Ray started his career with Hardman & Hardman Funeral Home, Clay, and retired from Atlantic Greyhound Lines after 17 years of service. He served as a member of Flotilla 2-1 of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Charleston, and served one term as Flotilla commander. He also served as president of the Greyhound Retirees Club for over 20 years and was a member of the Amalgamated Transit Union. He was preceded in death by his sister, Pauline Myers; and brother, Norman Hardman. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lenore Samples Hardman; a son and his wife, Ed and Dianna of Winston Salem, N.C; a daughter and her husband, Cidney and John Keith of Erie, Pa; grandchildren, John David Keith and Lauren Lisa Keith of Erie, Pa., Michael Hardman and wife, Courtney, of Winston Salem; and great-granddaughter, Taylor Anne Hardman of Winston Salem. Entombment, with military rites, will follow in Graceland Memorial Park. on November 21, 2004.1

He was born April 6, 1927, in Ivydale, WV, to Willis Henry Hill and Lula Jane (Wood) Hill. A graduate of West Virginia University and an alumnus of Alpha Gamma Rho, Mr. Hill also attended First United Methodist Church in Rockwall, TX. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a vocational agriculture teacher at Clay High School and later worked as a sales rep for the Allied Chemical and Arcadian Chemical Corporations. Mr. Hill retired from both companies. He and Dixie resettled in Texas in 1992, to be near their children. Mr. Hill is survived by his loving wife of 63 years: Dixie Hill; children: Dr. John Philip Hill and wife Linda of Rockwall, and Ruth Ann Hill of Rowlett; grandchildren: Rev. Nathaniel Hill and wife Candice of Winchester, TX, and Vicki Hill of Giddings, TX; great grandchild: John Barrett Hill; and cousin: Jim Johnson; along with a host of loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister: Mamie Hill; and sister: Anna Morris and husband Dallis. He was an Army veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific Theater. He held life membership in the VFW Post 4419 in Clay, American Legion Post 21 of Spencer, and in WVEA. He had served in Headstart Programs, sports activities for the youth, and was a member of Burke M.E. Church of Procious. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Mae Woodall on April 1, 1956, and his stepson, Robert "Wag" Allen Gandee on November 10, 1996. Surviving are his wife, Virginia Samples Gandee Boggs; son, Hugh III and wife, Barbara, of Great Falls, Va; daughter, Debra Anne Saunders and husband, John, of Leesburg, Va; brothers, Fred Boggs of Charleston, and Gail Boggs of Toronto, Ohio; sisters, Jean Boggs of Ivydale, Janet Crisco of Charleston; grandchildren, Peter, Michael and Christin Boggs of Great Falls, Va., Laura Burhenn of Washington, D.C; stepgrandchildren, Rob Busser of McLean, Va., and Karmin Gandee Richmond, Tabitha Gandee and Troy Gandee, all of Princeton; stepgreat-grandchildren, Katy, David, Stephen and Jacob Busser of McLean, Va., and Jenna Grace Gilmore, and Tyler Richmond of Princeton, W.Va. Burial will follow in Clay Memorial Gardens, Clay, with Military Graveside Rites conducted by Clay VFW Post 4419. on July 11, 2004.1
