He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served in Africa and Italy in the 70th and 91st Divisions. He is survived three sisters, Agnes Miller, Nina Massey and Loretta Sanson; a brother, Harry Dallas Dickens; and stepchildren, Claudette, Dorothy, Billie, James Stricklen, Bucky Stricklen, John Stricklen and Barbara Davis. She dedicated her life to serving her community for nearly 40 years. Bettie retired from the Ponca City Hospital in December 2009 after working there for nearly two decades. Bettie married Joseph Rex Taylor on February 9, 1960. They started out living in Walton's Mountain, WV and moved to Cincinnati, OH and Billings, OK before settling in Tonkawa, OK on April 12, 1974. Bettie is survived by her son, Kenny Taylor Sr. of Tonkawa, Jerry and Leonard Holly of Bixby, OK., Dennis Holly of Brooksville, OK, and her brother John Henry Simmons of Charleston, WV; grandchildren, Rex Leroy Taylor, Kenny Bradley Taylor Jr, and David Daniel Taylor., and great grandchildren Alicia, Cherish, and David; and Rex III, Jacob, and Luke. Rex and Bettie traveled thousands of miles each summer in Tennessee, North Carolina and Virginia to homecoming concerts for a week at a time. Rex went to be with the Lord, whom he loved and faithfully served since a young age, Friday evening, Oct. 26 , 2001, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. Nancy received Christ as her personal Savior December 2, 1973 and walked with the Lord until her death. She was the loving wife of John W. Stricklen, Pastor of Countryside Baptist Church where she faithfully served the Lord by his side. Nancy dedicated her life to reaching others for Christ. She served as church clerk and was involved in support of missions. Nancy will be remembered for her outgoing personality, keen sense of humor and her selfless consideration of others. She is survived by her husband Pastor John W. Stricklen, sons Michael (KC) Thompson and Matthew Thompson of South Daytona, FL as well as three stepchildren; John (Pam) Stricklen of Ormond Beach, FL, Wes (Renee) Stricklen of Port Orange, FL and Joy (Dennis) Dance of Zachary, LA; brother Ralph (Cha) McBee of Caddo Mills, TX; ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
