     Joseph Riley Simmons Joseph Riley Simmons, 94, of Roanoke passed away Thursday, May 9, 2019. He was the son of the late Moncie Edward Simmons and Clara Stump Simmons. Joseph served in the United States Army and was a WWII Veteran. He retired from the Roanoke City School System with 28 years of service. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother, Winford Simmons, 2 infant brothers and a sister, Alain Akers. Joseph was a loving and devoted husband and father. He enjoyed weekend family road trips on the parkway and visiting with family. A man of few words that could convey his thoughts by a simple look or a snap of his fingers, though he had few words he taught us respect, manners, morals and love for friends and family by example. Joseph was not a church goer but, he loved the Lord and conveyed that love to his children. He was a hard worker and quit was not in his vocabulary, he displayed this all his life especially in his last 4 years. In “Daddy’s” words “I can do anything I set my mind to. His hobbies were gardening, keeping his yard mowed and preparing large meals for his family on special occasions which he loved. Surviving him are his wife of 66 years, Doris Maxey Simmons; children, Karenlee Simmons, Steven Simmons and wife, Cathryn, Janet Scott and Rebecca Wilkerson and husband, James; brother, Elmer Simmons; 9 grandchildren, Amy, Jacob, Cheyenne, Matthew, Ashley, Alan, Misty, Debra, Ryan; 8 great-grandchildren, Britany, Cameron, Sierra, Sophia, Adalynn, Miranda, Amanda and Zachary; 3 great-great-grandchildren, Naphari, Layla and Lilly; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; children who loved him like a Papa, Lynn, Candence and Michael. The family would like to thank all the staff at Medi Hospice for their wonderful support and care over the past four years. A special thanks to Theresa, Diana, Katie, Marla and John for the personal and loving care they provided in Joseph and Doris’ home.      Steven Riley "Steve" Simmons Steven Riley Simmons, 63, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, June 7, 2019. He was the husband of Kathy (Babydoll) A. Simmons. Steve was born May 16, 1956 in Roanoke, the son of the late Joseph Riley Simmons and Doris Maxey Simmons. Steve was a United States Navy veteran. He achieved a degree as a Master Electrician. He was employed by the Roanoke City Public Schools System for over 44 years. He loved to play his guitar, watch Virginia Tech football, enjoyed woodworking, and traveling and spending time with family and friends. He was a compassionate and loving person who never knew a stranger and would give you the shirt off his back. Steve was a devoted, son, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. In addition to his wife, Kathy (Babydoll) Simmons, and mother, Doris M. Bill graduated from Auburn High School in 1954, and served in the United States Navy from 1957 to 1961. He worked at Corning Glass for 20 years, and retired from Findlay Industries, Dublin, in 2002. He also clerked for McNeil Auctions for over 50 years. Bill has lived in Pilot and farmed his entire life. His endeavors to help others was his goal, and he was a very talented person at anything he set forth to do and has passed many traits on to his family. The family would like to thank Dr. Daniel Bauer, Dr. R. Lee Meyers, DeEtta Ray, D.N.P., and Dr. Harry McCoy, and their staff for the great health care received by Bill over the years. The Graveside Service will be held with full military honors at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. on September 1, 2016.3

     Lyndall Mae Hall Lyndall Mae Hall Cole, Jul 18, 1942 - Nov 3, 2024. Lyndall Mae Hall Cole, 82, of Pilot, VA passed away on November 3, 2024. Lyndall was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, William (Bill) Cole; parents, Alfred and Maeda Hall; brother Tommy, half –brothers Roy, Martin, Lewis, and Ernie; half-sisters Emma Bower and Alberta Agee; nephew Chris Hall; and in-laws Irvin and Elsie Cole. Lyndall is survived by her devoted and loving daughters and sons-in-law, Shannon and Steve Dove, and Sandra and Cary McConnell; grandchildren (also known as her pride, joy and reason to smile) Kenny and Hilary Dove, Keisha Dove (Josh, Weston and Saylor), and Cole McConnell; cherished brothers and sisters-in-law, Louise Hall, Jack and Ruth Hall, Roscoe Hall, Perry and Jane Cole, Roy Cole (Glenna); faithful best friends Mary Sutphin and Jean Crabtree; as well as many nephews, a niece, cousins, friends, former co-workers, and neighbors in Floyd and Pilot. All her life, Lyndall enjoyed farm life. She graduated from Floyd County High School in 1960 and was a star player and co-captain of the girls’ basketball team. To say that Lyndall was dedicated to her career, is an understatement! She started with Devore & Grubbs Law Firm and had the honor of serving as Judge’s Secretary for both the Honorable Kenneth I. Devore (Lina) and the Honorable Ray W. Grubbs (Betsy) as they elevated to Judgeship. Completing over 40 years of loyal service as Circuit Court Reporter, she worked with so many wonderful people. In their free time, Lyndall and Bill clerked for McNeil Auctions for over 50 years. Lyndall spent her life ensuring that others were taken care of, especially her family. She made sure that her legacy will live own through her children and grandchildren. The family would like to extend profound thanks to Dr. Isaac Spence and his nurse Kim; all staff at Commonwealth Senior Living at Christiansburg; and Medi Hospice. Committal at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.3 She was buried at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, 2880 North Franklin Street, Christiansburg, Montgomery Co., Virginia.3 She was born on July 18, 1942 at Floyd Co., Virginia.2,3 She married William Kenneth "Bill" Cole, son of Irvin Dallas Cole and Dora Elsie Chafin, on February 8, 1964 at Leaksville, Rockingham Co., North Carolina.1,3,4 As of February 8, 1964,her married name was Cole.4 Lyndall Mae Hall died on November 3, 2024 at Virginia at age 82.3

Elmore, 72, retired Advent Christian minister, died early yesterday morning in a local hospital after a long illness. He lived at 609 Hillsdale Dr. Service will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the First Advent Christen Church. Rev. Herbert Spencer of Parkersburg will Officiate and burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. The body is at the Bartlett Mortuary and will be taken to the church an hour before the service. Mr. Elmore had been a minister 51 years before his retirement Aug. 27, 1950. His last pastorate was the Elmore Memorial Advent Christian Church, where he served 35 years. A native of Clay County, he came to Charleston in 1913 and took over the pastorate of the First Advent Christian Church on Randolph St. At that time he had been a minister for 14 years. He was ordained to the ministry in 1899. The Elmore Church as named for Rev. R. C. Elmore, an uncle of Mr. Elmore. In addition to church work he was affiliated with Elkana Lodge No. 95, IOFF. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Nilla Procious Elmore; a daughter, Mrs. Orville Reynolds, and a sister, Mrs. Letha Schoolcraft, both of Charleston. on May 23, 1951.8
