He was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Jackson Johnson of Athens, WV. William is survived by three sons and (daughters-in-law), William H., III (Jane) of Lexington, KY, Mark B. (Peggy) of Savannah, GA, and Paul D. (Angela) of Marion, AL. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Christie, Arthur, Madeline and Olivia. Bill was born in Princeton, WV where his father worked for the Railway Express Agency and his mother worked as a church secretary. Bill excelled in school both athletically and academically. He was a star member of the 1943 Princeton High School Tigers runner-up State Championship basketball team and was also the President of his 1943 Senior Class. He received athletic scholarships to West Virginia University (WVU) where he played center on the basketball team and tackle on the Mountaineers' football team while maintaining academic excellence receiving his Phi Beta Kappa key and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in January 1949. His most famous football moment came in the fall of '44 when WVU defeated Penn State in State College, Pennsylvania. With WVU defending on its own 7 yard line late in the 4th quarter, he recovered a Penn State fumble to win the game. The victory at State College was repeated by only two other WVU teams in the long history of the rivalry, which ceased in 1992. Bill was also a member of the Alpha Theta Chapter of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. His college education was interrupted when he served the post-WWII occupational force in the Army in the 350th Infantry, 88th Div. ETO, 5 Army NATO, WVANG & ORC. He served in Italy but also played basketball for the US Army in Europe. In 1947 he married Elizabeth Ann Baber in Morgantown, and was employed as an accountant for the local Ford automobile dealership. He was then offered a position with Mathieson Chemical Company in Morgantown which would become a lifelong career. In 1955, his work transferred him to the Olin-Mathieson corporate offices in Baltimore, MD and the family settled in Catonsville, MD. They joined the Christian Temple Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Catonsville. In 1959, Bill was transferred to the Olin-Mathieson Chemical Plant near Brandenburg, KY where the family would make their home and become members of Brandenburg United Methodist Church. Bill had a passion for golf and was involved in the design of the Hillcrest Country Club's golf course. He also enjoyed volunteer coaching Little League football and serving as a scoutmaster. In 1964, Bill became an Accounting Engineer working for Olin's corporate offices in Stamford, CT but retained residence in Brandenburg. Bill retired from Olin in 1985 and in retirement split his time between Brandenburg and Sun City, AZ where he continued his love of golf, was a member of the United States Golf Association and worked as a PGA Marshall for the Phoenix Open. He studied Native American lifestyle, art and culture and took many sight-seeing trips in the desert southwest. In 2000 he returned to Brandenburg to live full time until advancing Alzheimer's disease required his relocation to Marshview Retirement Community in Savannah, GA in late 2006. He later moved to Shadowmoss Plantation Alzheimer's Care Facility where he resided until his death. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 10 a.m. at First Christian Church, Princeton, WV. A graveside service will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park, Princeton. DeWeese, 65, of Mullens died at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in his home after a long illness. A retired yard brakeman, he was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen and the American Legion. He lived in Mullens for 36 years. Survivors include his wife, Enola Conner DeWeese; a daughter, Mrs. Ruby Jo Gordon of Mullens; a son, Glenn DeWeese of Mullens; his mother, Mrs. A. F. He had been a jeweler in Mullens for 32 years and was the owner of Martin's Jewelry Store. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Mullens, the Knights of Pythias and the DOKK. Born May 27, 1911 at Neponset, he was a son of the late Nels and Amy Martin. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Conner Martin; a brother, J. Born May 6, 1923 at Pettry, he was the son of the late Hollie Meadows and Leotie Meadows Ferguson Gore. James served his country during World War II with the U.S. Army in the 743rd Engineer Heavy Shop Company. He had worked for the West Virginia Department of Highways and retired from Concord College in Athens serving as the ground foreman for the Physical Plant. James was a member of Mount Jackson Baptist Church in Athens. He enjoyed being with his family and friends, and truly loved working with his flowers and in the gardens. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Brookie Alma Conner Meadows, a sister, Lauvella Pettrey and a great grandson, Anthony Michael Meadows.      Talmadge Clayton Pigg Jr. was buried at Coal City Cemetery, Coal City, Raleigh Co., West Virginia.^1,3 He was born on January 8, 1945 at Princewick, Raleigh Co., West Virginia.^1,2 He died on July 15, 1954 at Princewick, Raleigh Co., West Virginia, at age 9; Died after being hit by a car.^1,2 He Talmadge Clayton Pigg Jr., nine, Princewick, son of Mrs. and Mrs. T. C. Pigg was Raleigh County's fourth highway fatality in 1954 yesterday when he died at 11 a.m. after being struck by a car at Princewick. The accident occurred near McKinney's market at 1:30 a.m. and the boy was dead on arrival at a local hospital. State Police said the driver of the car was Wilbur Lawrence Martin, 30, Crab Orchard. The officers said the boy ran from behind a parked truck into the road. Dr. Lee B. Redson, Lillybrook physician, and others prepared a makeshift stretcher to transport the child to the hospital. The boy had attended vacation church school yesterday at the Princewick Baptist church near the store and had stopped at the store to buy chewing gum a few minutes before the accident. He was born at Princewick, Jan. 8, 1945. Mrs. Pigg is the former Georgia Widener. In addition to his parents, survivors include two sisters, Catherine and Dreama, and one brother, Billy, all at home; and the maternal grandfather, W. G. Widener, Mabscott. The body is at the Quesenberry and Webb Funeral Home, and will be taken to the residence at 5:30 p.m. today. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Martin, driver of the death car, is employed as a clerk at the Lillybrook Coal Company Store at Lillybrook. The boy is the second pedestrian to be killed in this year Raleigh County. A woman was struck and killed at MacArthur a few weeks ago. The other Raleigh County fatalities are a driver and a passenger. on July 16, 1954.²

She was a former employee for the Celanese Corporation at Narrows, Va., the Maidenform Company, Oakwood Motor Court and for Mercer General Insurance Co., all of Princeton. She was a member of the Silver Springs Baptist Church on Thornton Avenue in Princeton. She was preceded in death by her husband Herman Lee Poff, her step mother Vitie May Jones. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend, and she loved to grow vegetables in the garden to give to her neighbors. Survivors; one daughter, Linda Poff Quesenberry of Vinton, Va; two sons, Jeffrey I. Poff of Princeton, H. Lee Poff Jr., of Thaxton, Va; two brothers, Jack D. King, John Henry King, both of Princeton; two sisters, Helen King Biggert of Como, Miss., Betty Day Griffith of Sulliban, Ill; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery, Princeton. on January 30, 2000.⁴
