Gene Cordell Hardison was buried at Spangler Family Cemetery, 100 yards west of Rt. 614, Mayberry, Patrick Co., Virginia.5 He married Nettie DeHart.2 Gene Cordell Hardison was born on January 7, 1924 at Schoolfield, Pittsylvania Co., Virginia.2,3,5 He died on January 15, 2007 at Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia, at age 83.2,4,5 He Gene Cordell Hardison, 83, of Floyd and formerly of Roanoke, died Monday, January 15, 2007, at the V.A. Medical Center in Salem. He was born January 7, 1924, in Schoolfield and was a son of the late Durham L. and Selma Yeatts Hardison. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd Hardison. He served in World War II from 1943 to 1945, and during the Korean Conflict, including as a sergeant with the 157th Engineering Combat Battalion. During his enlistment he served in Japan, Korea, Europe and Germany. He received two honorable discharges for his 13 years of military service and was awarded the European, African, the Middle Eastern Croix De Guerre, and the World War II Korean service medal with two bronze stars.
After his discharge, he operated Cobblestone Builders, a construction company in Roanoke. He was a member of Blue Hills Golf Club in Hollins until 2005. Surviving are his wife, Nettie DeHart Hardison of Floyd; one daughter, Cynthia H. Moran of Floyd; one son, Richard Hardison of Floyd; one stepdaughter, Darlene Cockram of Meadows of Dan; one sister, Iris H. Doss of Martinsville; and one granddaughter. A private memorial service for the family will be held at Wood Funeral Home in Floyd. on January 26, 2007.2

Also surviving are aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends. A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, July 19, 1999, at Oakey's South Chapel with the Rev. Maurice Wright officiating. Interment will follow in Restvale Cemetery, Floyd County. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Oakey's South Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Leukemia Society of America or the National Cancer Society. on July 18, 1999.2
