     Arthur Gordon Parris Arthur Gordon Parris, 80, died Friday, January 24, 2014, at his residence. Born in Abingdon, VA and a son of the late Vernie Alonza and Essie Gray Parris, he was the husband of Frances Isabelle Gray Parris. Rev. Parris was retired from Mathis Plumbing in Greenwood and was a retired Baptist Minister. He was a US Air Force veteran and was a member of New Horizon Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Frances Gray Parris, children, Nancy Canter of Meadowview, VA, Betty Poole of Thomasville, NC, Carol Griffin of Kingsport, TN, Gary Parris of Greenwood, SC, Patricia Parris of Lodi, VA, Joann Quesenberry of Meadowview, VA, Marlene Moody of Wheeling, WV and Daniel Catlett of Leesburg, VA; two sisters, Sena Martin of Saluda and Alta Koning of Chillhowie, VA; sixteen grandchildren, twenty three great grandchildren and one great- great grandchild. Rev.      Lana Denise Catlett was buried at Salisbury National Cemetery Annex, 501 Statesville Boulevard, Salisbury, Rowan Co., North Carolina.^2,4 She was born on March 12, 1953 at Bethesda, Montgomery Co., Maryland.^1,2,4,3 As of October 2, 1971,her married name was Horsman.¹ She married John David Horsman on October 2, 1971 at Springfield, Fairfax Co., Virginia.¹ Lana Denise Catlett and John David Horsman were divorced on June 27, 1978 at Prince William Co., Virginia.⁵ As of October 4, 1986,her married name was Brewen.⁶ Lana Denise Catlett married Cheney Claybourne "Bud" Brewen III on October 4, 1986 at Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland.^6,2,3 Lana Denise Catlett died on April 9, 2012 at Mecklenburg Co., North Carolina, at age 59.^2,4,7,3 She Lana Denise Catlett Brewen, March 12, 1953 - April 9, 2012. Mrs. Brewen, of Matthews passed away after a valiant fight against liver disease. She went peacefully and comfortably and now is with the our Lord and Savior. Born March 12, 1953 in Bethesda, Maryland, Denise was the daughter of Frances Isabell Gray Parris and the late Donald Roy Catlett. While attending high school in Springfield, Virginia, Denise was the lead majorette, something she was very proud of. Mrs. Brewen was a computer programmer for the Defense Communications Agency from 1977 to 1987. During her ten years with the agency, Denise worked from a GS1 to GS13. She was stationed in Germany and enjoyed traveling and seeing Europe. While stationed in Germany, she met Bud Brewen, who has been her husband and best friend. In October of 2011, Denise and Bud celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. They moved back to the US in 1987 and upon Bud's retirement relocates to Matthews in 1991. Denise was an active member and administrator for the Blair Road United Methodist, and will be remembered as a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother and friend. Survivors include her husband Bud, daughter Kelly, was the joy of her life, mother and stepfather Fran and Gordon Parris of Saluda, SC; and brother Dan Catlett and wife Ellen of Leesburg, VA. Also surviving are several aunts, uncles and cousins. The family would to thank the doctors, nurses and medical staff for their care and compassion shown to Denise during her battle with cancer. on April 12, 2012.³

     Frank Aubrey Hubbard Sr. Frank A. Hubbard, 84, of Vinton, passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2019. He was born on November 3, 1934 in Bedford County to Hallie and Otha Hubbard. He was predeceased by his parents, brother, Wallace Hubbard, and sister, Ruth Melton. Surviving family includes his loving wife of 63 years, Sadie Gray Hubbard; daughter, Sherrie H. Bushnell (Gary); son, Frank A. Hubbard, Jr. (Pam); brothers, Jack and Everett Hubbard (Marie); sisters, Bernice Campbell and Frances Fisher; brothers-in-law, Howard Melton and Tommy Gray (Betty); sisters-in-law, Frances Parris and Helen Rynd; granddaughter, Lauren B. Hatcher (Travis); step-granddaughter, Stephanie B. Lane (Scott); grandsons, Brian, Brent, Brad, and Bobby Hubbard; great-grandson, Kaden Hatcher, and many nieces and nephews. Frank was a heavy equipment mechanic. He began his career at Carter Machinery. After leaving Carter he went into business for himself under the company name of Hub’s Cat Service. Frank was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather. He adored his grandchildren with all his heart. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Friendship Health and Rehab for the love and excellent care provided to Daddy. Funeral services will be held at Barnhardt Baptist Church in Goodview.      Peggy Joyce Bryant was born on June 27, 1937 at Bonsack, Roanoke Co., Virginia.^2,3 As of August 1, 1985,her married name was Hall.² She married Danny Wayne Hall Sr., son of Andrew Charles Hall and Nannie Kate Ratliff, on August 1, 1985 at Vinton, Roanoke Co., Virginia.^1,2 Peggy Joyce Bryant died on December 10, 2017 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 80.³ She Peggy Joyce Bryant Hall, 80, a lifelong resident of Vinton, Va., peacefully passed away on Sunday, December 10, 2017, at Pheasant Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Roanoke with her family by her side. She is the daughter of the late Ethel Marie (Ree) Stanley Bryant and Lloyd Bryant and was born in Bonsack on June 27, 1937. In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her sister, Carol (Sweetpea) Bryant Clatterbuck; brother, Bruce W. Bryant; and husband, Danny Wayne Hall. Peggy is survived by her loving brother, Price Bryant of Roanoke; children, Carla Green Fosbre and husband, Mike, of Vinton, David Green and wife, Kellie Hall Green, of Ohio, and Jill Craighead Cromer and husband, Jeff, of Orland, Fla. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, all of whom she dearly loved. Peggy was a retired supervisor with Blue Cross/Blue Shield in Downtown Roanoke. After retirement, she spent her life loving and helping take care of her beloved grandchildren. Peggy will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her, and those who were lucky enough to experience her unparalleled wit, incisive humor, and poetic expression. Her family would especially like to thank Richard and Connie Goad and Anthony and Cassie Bryant, for their constant prayers and visits while Peggy was at Pheasant Ridge. Also, many thanks to the staff at Pheasant Ridge for their loving care and compassion for Peggy during her 2 ½ years there. A family celebration of Peggy's life will be held in the Summer of 2018. on December 15, 2017.³
