It was his first day on the job. Franklin County Sheriff's Investigator G.L. Shively said Dale Lynnwood Deweese , 33, of Copper Hill and his brother were clearing a grove of trees on land owned by Larry Florin near the Blue Ridge Parkway when Deweese was killed. A tree Deweese had sawed fell against a nearby one and apparently broke some limbs loose, Shively said. A few minutes later, one of the limbs fell and struck Deweese on the head and shoulders while he was sawing on another tree. Shively said the blow knocked Deweese to the bottom of a steep embankment. He died at the scene.      Donald Dwight Beckner Donald D. Beckner, 63, of Roanoke, VA, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 6, 2020. He was born on Friday, May 17, 1957, to Ida King Beckner Bolt and the late Houston Beckner. Donald loved music and especially loved playing his guitar. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle and watching NASCAR racing. His greatest joy was being with his family and friends. In addition to his father, he was greeted in heaven by his great-granddaughter, Hazel Grace Smith. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Rebecca Beckner; daughter, Katrina Beckner Walker, and husband, Aaron; grandchildren, Austin Smith and wife, Autumn, Adam Smith, Macy Walker, Wyatt Walker; great-granddaughter, Addlyn Smith; sisters, Wanda Hale and husband, Tommy, and Marsha Beckner; brother, Kenneth Beckner and wife, Mary; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends also survive.
