Katherine Sarah Wertz was buried at Sherwood Burial Park, 1045 Lynchburg Turnpike, Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia.4 She was born on June 13, 1924 at Roanoke Co., Virginia.5,9 As of July 3, 1946,her married name was Agee.5 She married William Nathan Agee, son of William Arthur Agee and Charlotte Gertrude Cooper, on July 3, 1946 at Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia.10,4,5,6 Katherine Sarah Wertz died on January 25, 2014 at Roanoke Co., Virginia, at age 89.4,6,9 She Katherine Wertz Agee passed into the loving arms of her Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, January 25, 2014. She was greeted there by her loving husband, William N. (Bill), her son, Roy Wayne, her parents, Newton Hezekiah and Oakie Wertz, and her nine brothers and sisters. She left behind her sons and their wives, Larry N. and Debbie Agee of Richmond, William M. (Mike) and Judy Agee of Roanoke, Kevin Lee and Brenda Agee of Roanoke; daughter-in-law, Hydee Finch Agee of Myrtle Beach, S.C; three grandsons, Greg Agee of Richmond, Randy Agee, and Douglas Agee of Roanoke; four granddaughters, Michele Voss and husband Ted of Wallingford, Connecticut, Alexandra and Aurora Finch Agee of Myrtle Beach, Isabella Agee of Roanoke; and one great-grandson, Gavin Voss of Wallingford Conn. Katherine (or "Kitty" as she was called in earlier times) was a child of the Great Depression. She was raised on a farm on Sugar Loaf Mountain in Roanoke County, the eighth of ten children. She attended Andrew Lewis High School, but left school early in order to tend to her ailing father. She worked at S. H. Kress & Co. in downtown Roanoke during World War II and married her sweetheart Bill when he returned from service as a flight navigator in the Navy during the war. They settled in Roanoke County where they successfully raised four rambunctious boys to be (at least) decent husbands, fathers, and Godly men. Nothing was more important to Katherine than her family, and it was often said of her that if you wanted to see what an angry momma bear protecting her cubs was like, just try messing with one of her boys! Her mother-in-law likened her to a mother hen guarding her chicks. In every sense of the word, Katherine was a dedicated wife and mother. Her dedication was centered on her strong Christian faith. She grew up attending Oak Grove Brethren church. She raised her family while very active at Cave Spring Methodist Church, and spent the last twenty-seven years of her life as a member of Cave Spring Baptist. She loved her Bible studies, playing the piano, and singing old hymns. "The Bible says" was her mantra, and she lived by it. Her family would like to thank the staff of Emeritus at Cave Spring, the folks at Gentle Shepherd Hospice, and her special "drink of cool water", Sally Gear. She lived a good fruitful life, and impacted far more people than even she was aware of. Arrangements are being handled by Oakey's South Chapel. The family will greet guests on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 from 5:30 TO 8:30 P.M. A service in celebration of her life will be held at Oakeys on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at noon with burial immediately following the service at Sherwood Memorial Park. on January 27, 2014.4
