Mary Louise "Mary Lou" Williams Mary Lou Shelton, 93, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2016 following an extended illness. She is survived by her daughter, Connie Clonch, and son-in-law, Charles Clonch of Portland, Ore., and by granddaughters, Cara Clonch-Viner and Courtney Clonch. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 70 years, LeGrand A "Mug" Shelton; their son, Dr. William L. Shelton; her parents, Mr. & Mrs. W.A. Williams of Charleston, and by her sister, Bettie L. Nuckolls of Charleston. Mary Lou was born February 25, 1923 in Charleston and was in the first graduating class of Stonewall Jackson High School. She worked as school secretary at Horace Mann Junior High for 27 years and was never too busy to listen to a student's concerns. Mary Lou was well read, spoke and wrote perfect English and made some of the best fudge, pimento cheese, and stewed apples to be found. She and Mug had lifelong friends and both were accomplished bridge players and ballroom dancers. Both she and Mug enjoyed many years of dancing and playing bridge with their many friends. In later years they participated in several dinner clubs, always exploring any new restaurant in Charleston. Mary Lou and Mug were lifelong members of the First Presbyterian Church of Charleston. We are grateful for the compassionate care she received while at Quarry Manor. We especially want to thank LuAnn Hall for being a caring friend to Mary Lou in her final months. Interment at Sunset Memorial Park will follow the service.4 She was buried at Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston, Kanawha Co., West Virginia.4,7 She was born on February 25, 1923 at Charleston, Kanawha Co., West Virginia.4,7 As of December 16, 1944,her married name was Shelton.1 She married LeGrand Adolphus Shelton on December 16, 1944 at Charleston, Kanawha Co., West Virginia.1,4,5 Mary Louise "Mary Lou" Williams died on July 10, 2016 at Kanawha Co., West Virginia, at age 93.4,7

LeGrand Adolphus Shelton LeGrand A. "Mug" Shelton passed away peacefully on April 1, 2015 following a short illness. Mug was born June 28, 1921 in Charleston. He is survived by his wife of over 70 years, Mary Lou Shelton; their daughter, Connie Clonch, and son-in-law, Charles Clonch, of Portland, Ore; and by granddaughters, Cara Clonch-Viner and Courtney Clonch. He was preceded in death by his son, Dr. William L. Shelton; his parents, Mr. & Mrs. James A. Shelton of Charleston; and by siblings, James S. Shelton of Hawaii, Charles A. Shelton of Maryland, Zaida Wands of Florida and Sue Shawkey of Charleston. After graduating from Charleston High, Mug entered the Indiana Institute of Technology to study mechanical engineering. However his studies were cut short in 1942 by World War II when he joined the Army Air Force. It was not long before the Army recognized his mechanical aptitude and sent him to study aircraft mechanics at Curtis Wright. As such, began his lifelong love of science and all things mechanical. Following World War II, Mug returned to Charleston and worked at Union Carbide for 37 years until retiring in 1982. During this time he completed a degree in business, became an accomplished bridge player, ballroom dancer and put his mechanical abilities to use by lending a hand to family and friends on numerous projects. One of Mug's favorite sayings was to "always leave whatever you find in better shape than when you found it." Truly Mug left the world a better place than when he found it. His wit, compassion and humor will be so missed. Mug had lifelong friends from his graduating high school class and attended class reunions for over 70 years. He and Mary Lou belonged to several supper clubs, dance clubs and were lifelong members of the First Presbyterian Church of Charleston. We are grateful for the compassionate care he received while at The Ridgemont, Valley Center and Quarry Manor. Interment at Sunset Memorial Park will follow the service.4 He was buried at Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston, Kanawha Co., West Virginia.4,5 He was born on June 28, 1921 at Charleston, Kanawha Co., West Virginia.4,5,6 He married Mary Louise "Mary Lou" Williams, daughter of William Augustus Williams and Emma Louise McWhorter, on December 16, 1944 at Charleston, Kanawha Co., West Virginia.1,3,7 LeGrand Adolphus Shelton died on April 1, 2015 at Kanawha Co., West Virginia, at age 93.4,5
