     Robert Earl Spencer was buried at Westview Cemetery, Blacksburg, Virginia.5 He was born on August 27, 1934 at Ithaca, Tompkins Co., New York.2,3,4,5 He married Nina Carole Thomas, daughter of Herbert Emmett Thomas and Edith Pearl Poff, on August 28, 1969 at Montgomery Co., Virginia.1,7,2,6 Robert Earl Spencer died on December 2, 2016 at Virginia at age 82.5,6 He Robert Earl Spencer of Blacksburg, died on December 2, 2016. He is survived by his wife, Carole Thomas Spencer. Other survivors are his very special friends, Isaac Holden, Floyd, and Gail Hoback, Bent Mountain. In addition, his survivors include brother-in-law, Douglas E. (Ruth) Thomas, Chilhowie; niece, Kristina T. (Joseph) Mueller, Midlothian; niece, Diana T. (Geoff) Goodale, Richmond, Texas; and great-nephew, Clive Emmett Goodale. The family gives special thanks to his devoted caregivers, Christiana Lane, Frances Mullins and Frances Collins. A special thank you to the staff at Montgomery Regional Hospital for the excellent, compassionate care they provided for Mr. and Mrs. Spencer. Mr. Spencer studied mathematics at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He taught 35 years in the Department of Mathematics at Va. Tech. Mr. Spencer was a First Lieutenant in the United States Army. He achieved the rank of Life Master in the American Contract Bridge League, was a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. He was a member of the Blacksburg United Methodist Church. Mr. Spencer was a devoted fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Va. Tech Hokies. on December 4, 2016.6
