Nicolena Unknown1,2

F, d. March 9, 1966
Her married name was Poff.1 Nicolena Unknown married Oscar Herman Poff, son of George Cabbel Poff and Alice Emaline Radford.1,2 Nicolena Unknown A Penneville woman was found stabbed to death with a screw driver early today in a country tavern she and her husband operated near this Oswego County hamlet. Before noon, state police investigators had arrested a 23 year old man and charged him with the robbery-slaying. The victim was identified as Mrs. Nicolena Poff, 55, who resided in a home near the three unit business. Investigators identified the suspect as Timothy K. Monette, who lives in a home less than a mile from the Poff business. Both his home, and the Poff property are in Sandridge Road. Capt. Warren B Surdam, who headed the investigation, said Monette was to be arraigned later today on a charg of first degree murder. He said more than $100 was missing from the tavern's open cash register. Mrs. Poff had been working in the bar and was found by her husband, Oscar H. Poff, at 12:50 a.m. when he arrived from their home to help his wife close the tavern. Surdam said a bloodhound followed the blood-stained tracks from the rear door of the Poff tavern to Monette's home. After obtaining a search warrent, Surdam said, the investigators searched the Monette home and found a quantity of money. The cash was identified as that stolen from the tavern, the state police investigators said. Mrs. Poff had been beaten severely about the head and face, and had bruises on her body, Surdam said. Glasses found smashed near the bar indicated a "violent struggle," he said. Before Monette was arrested, a number of patrons of the tavern had been questioned by some of the 35 investigators and troopers thrown on the case. State police also questioned numerous motorists stopped at roadblocks thrown up around the tavern-grocer-launderette business place. on March 9, 1966.2 She died on March 9, 1966 at Pennellville, Oswego Co., New York.1,2
