Norma was a longtime member of Ninth Street Church of the Brethren and a retired bookkeeper for Tultex. She was preceded in death by her parents, William A. and Lula P. Poff; her brother, William (Bill) Alton Poff; and her sisters, Marileene Shirley Poff and Thelma Virginia Poff Dooley. Norma is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 55 years, Melvin George Wiseman; her sisters, Gladys Poff Parker, of Orlando, Fla., and Bonnie Mae Poff Chewning, of Salem; and numerous nieces and nephews. A service celebrating her life will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, February 13, 2012, at Oakey's North Chapel with Pastor Dan Rudy officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 12, 2012, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at Oakey's North Chapel, 540-362-1237. on February 11, 2012.¹

Melvin was a retired police sergeant from the Roanoke City Police Department with 43 years service and had served in the United States Army during Korea. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Willie Mae Carter Wiseman and his devoted and loving wife of 55 years, Normalaine (Norma) Poff Wiseman. Surviving are his brother, Glenn Wiseman of Roanoke; his sister, Bonnie Wiseman Chittum and husband, Gary of Virginia Beach; also numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to say a "special thanks" to the workers at Pheasant Ridge Memory Care Center and Roanoke Memorial Hospital, 10th floor palliative care doctors and nurses, for all their comfort, care and concern for Melvin. A graveside service will be held in Evergreen Burial Park, Saturday, December 28, 2013 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jack Lowe Jr. officiating.      Bonnie Mae Poff was buried at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, 5737 Airport Road NW, Roanoke, Virginia.⁶ She was born on February 12, 1933 at Roanoke, Virginia.⁶ As of December 31, 1950,her married name was Chewning.⁴ She married Steve Edward Chewning Sr. on December 31, 1950 at Roanoke, Virginia.^1,2,7,6,4 Bonnie Mae Poff died on March 20, 2013 at Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia, at age 80.⁶ She Bonnie Poff Chewning, 80, of Salem, went to her heavenly home Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at Lewis Gale Medical Center following a long illness. Bonnie was born in Roanoke February 12, 1933, and lived in the area all of her life. She was the daughter of the late William A. and Lula S. Poff. Bonnie was a bookkeeper for many years. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and loved her family. In addition to her parents, Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband Steve Chewning Sr. in 2010; sisters, Marilyn Poff, Thelma Dooley, and Norma Wiseman; and her brother, Billy Poff. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Jackie Chewning Jr., of Winston-Salem, N.C., Jeff and Beach Chewning, of Wirtz; daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Michael Coleman, of Salem; grandchildren, Jake Chewning, Lewyn Poage, Tyson Poage, Travis Poage, Joshua Harlow, and Joey Harlow; great-grandchildren, Emmaleigh Poage, Jocelynn Harlow, Ella Harlow, and Jordan Harlow; sister, Gladys Parker, of Orlando, Fla; special friends and doctor, Dr. Nelson Green and his wife, Brenda; dear friends, Ruth Yagle, and Tom and Diane Martin. The family would like to thank the MICU staff at Lewis Gale Medical Center for the outstanding care they gave to Bonnie. Burial will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. on March 22, 2013.⁶

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mack and Mary Chewning; brothers, Parrish (Pete) Chewning and Paul Chewning; and sisters, Lula Westmoreland, Aileen Wiley and Ruth Harris. Steve retired from A&P as the meat manager after 34 years of service. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Bonnie P. Jones went to be with her Lord Tuesday morning, July 18, 2017 at the Brethren Home Community, New Oxford. Born June 15, 1928, in Roanoke County, VA to the late Guy Lermond Sisson and Roxie Mattie Simpson Sisson. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Gratin Ashby Jones of Olney, MD. She was also prceded in death by her grandson, Glenn Tanner of New Oxford; her brother, Thomas Sisson of Roanoke, VA; her sisters, Louise Cate of Baltimore, MD, Rev. Mildred Asbury of Lynchburg, VA, Claudine Chumney of Blackstone, VA, Margaret Strickler of Blacksburg, VA, Frances Prentis of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. She is survived by one brother-in-law, Aubrey Chumney of Blackstone, VA. She is also survived by her daughter, Carolyn Marie Tanner and a son-in-law, John H. Tanner, Jr. of New Oxford. She is also survived by her daughter, Sandra Sue Edwards of Gettysburg, VA; grandson, Phillip Edwards and daughter-in-law, Marianne Edwards; two precious great-grandchildren, Alison Edwards and Austin Edwards of Brick, NJ. She is also survived by her grandson, Andrew Edwards of Littlestown. Betty graduated from Bent Mt. High School and Roanoke Business College. She was employed by the VA Hospital of Roanoke Va. And later the C&P telephone Company which became Verizon. She was a wonderful wife and mother and an excellent homemaker. She was a dedicated member of the Olney Baptist Church. Over the years she was a Sunday School Teacher and a Vacation Bible School Teacher. She was active in the Ladies Missionary Society, Ladies Sunday School Class, and Prayer Line. Betty enjoyed being room mother for her daughter's school class and went on many field trips with them. She was also in the PTA. The family would like to express their thanks to The Brethren Home Community and the Spirit Trust Lutheran Hospice for their loving care. A graveside service will be held at the Norbeck Memorial Park, 16225 Batchelors Forest Rd., Olney, MD. on July 20, 2017.⁸

     Clyde Winfred Foster SHAWSVILLE - Mrs. Clyde C. Wright of Rt. 1, Shawsville, died Saturday night in a Roanoke hospital. Surviving are her husband, Harold B. Wright, one daughter, Mrs. Thomas S. Evans of Salem; one son, Victor B. Craighead of Shawsville; her mother, Maude J. Foster; four sisters, Mrs. Irene Canders, Mrs. Georgia Wimmer, both of Shawsville; Mrs. Wanda Coleman of Salem; Mrs. Hilda Argabright of Roanoke; four brothers, Marvin Foster, Edward Foster, Clinton Foster, all of Shawsville; Warren Foster of Levittown, Penn; 5 grandchildren. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Piedmont Methidist Church with burial in Piedmont Cemetery.² Her married name was Wright.² She was buried at Piedmont Cemetery, Rt. 11 to Shawsville, turn at nursing home, Rt. 637, about 8 miles on the left, Montgomery Co., Virginia.^3,4,2 She married Harold B. Wright.² Clyde Winfred Foster was born on November 18, 1910.⁴ As of June 23, 1927,her married name was Craighead.^1,4 She married Linton Eldridge Craighead, son of James Lewis Craighead and Sallie Lee Janney, on June 23, 1927.^1,4 Clyde Winfred Foster died on May 17, 1975 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 64.^1,2

     Lawrence George Nault was buried at Roseland Park Cemetery, 29001 Woodward Avenue, Berkley, Oakland Co., Michigan.⁴ He was born on September 8, 1904 at Concordia, Cloud Co., Kansas.² He married Aline Bernice Tabor, daughter of Archibald Milton "Arch" Tabor and Celeste Virginia Wilson, on August 3, 1940 at Detroit, Wayne Co., Michigan.^1,3 Lawrence George Nault died on May 28, 1962 at Detroit, Wayne Co., Michigan, at age 57.⁴ He Services for Lawrence G. Nault, 57, court clerk for Circuit Judge Nathan J. Kaufman, will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the Neely Funeral Home, 16540 Meyers. Burial will be in Roseland Park Cemetery, Royal Oak. Mr. Nault died Monday of a heart attack. His home was at 14949 Ward. Surviving are his wife, Aline, and three daughters, Marilyn, Lorraine and Mrs. Thomas Roche of Ypsilanti. on May 30, 1962.⁴

Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Reardon of Sarasota and Lynn Cecchini of Bloomington, Minn; two sons, Richard of Sweet Home, Ore., and Phillip of Fenton, Mich; a sister, Ruth Letts of California; three brothers, Charles and George Keeran, both of Arizona, and Rolla Keeran of Michigan; and nine grandchildren.
