Tilden John Lykins was buried at Red Warrior Cemetery, Red Warrior, Kanawha Co., West Virginia.2 He was born circa March, 1880 at Decota, Kanawha Co., West Virginia; On his WWI draft card Tilden listed his birth date as Mar 23, 1878 and on his death certificate it is listed as Mar 4, 1877.3,4,5 He married Dora Belle Holstein on July 14, 1899 at Kanawha Co., West Virginia.6 Tilden John Lykins The whole family of Tilden Lykens was drowned before his face. Lykens wife, five children, a sister and his father were in the house together. Lykens was in the mine. The house in which the Lykenses were began to move away when the old man seized a grapevine and held on to it until he was rescued. In the meantime Tilden Lykens, hearing of the flood, came out of the mine in time to see his whole family go down before his face and he was never able to save them or render them any assistance. The boy that rode the comb of the roof of a house until it struck a bridge pier that threw him off into the water was one of the Lykens family. on August 11, 1916.7 He Mrs. Tillman Lykens, her two daughters, and her sister-in-law, Miss Maggie Lykens, all of whom were drowned, were residents of Sandy City. H. Lykens, the father of Tillman Lykens, and the occupant of the house adjoining that of his son, had a miraculous escape from death, survivors say. His house was washed from its foundation, and as it was being carried down the creek, he grabbed hold of a grapevine overhanging the edge of the stream and clung to it until friends rescued him. on August 12, 1916.8 He married Ollie Perry on October 14, 1916.9,10 Tilden John Lykins died on November 17, 1947 at Ohley, Kanawha Co., West Virginia.5,2 He Lykens, Tilden - 70, of Ohley, died at his home yesterday. Surviving are his wife, Ollie; four sons, Ervie, Colcord, Thurman, Spencer, Elzie and Kimball, both at home; two daughters, Lorraine and Edith Marie, both at home; two brothers, Henry Lykens of Tennessee and Bruce of Ohley. Service will be held at Ohley Baptist church tomorrow at 2 p.m. with Rev. Charles Hudson at Cannelton officiating. Burial will be in the Red Warrior cemetery. on November 18, 1947.2
