Carolyn Yvonne (Sink) Thompson, 72, a beloved mother, sister, teacher, and friend, has passed away in Titusville, FL on February 23, after winning her fight against ALS for many years. Carolyn also lived and loved her prior life in Beckley, WV, where she proudly served as a science teacher for Raleigh County Schools, becoming "Mrs. Thompson" to her students at Beckley Junior High. The official title came when she married her sweetheart, the late Okie "Junior" Thompson. Carolyn's road to success in Beckley began as a waitress in restaurants such as the uptown Murphy's, before she attended and graduated from Beckley College, Concord College, and WVU, finishing with her Master's degree. Family was the highlight of Carolyn's life. Surviving, to carry her light, are her younger brothers, Charlie, Dan (Lisa), Scott (Connie), Steve, and Stew (Beverly) Sink, her sister Melissa Savage (Keith), and their beautiful families. Carolyn's brother, Bill, as well as her parents Charles and Ethelda Sink (Smith) precede her in death. Carolyn Thompson loved her daughter Kelly (and wife, Laurie), her housemates, Frank (son) and Kenton, and her dogs, Allie, Phoebe, and Max. Carolyn loved the USA, gambling at Patty's with her sister, Smith Family Reunions, and Shade Tree Car Club events. Carolyn Thompson loved to dance. Born September 8, 1942 in Beckley, he was the son of the late Okie James and Santa Marie Abbott Thompson. Okie was proud of his years in band at Woodrow Wilson High School, where he was first chair trumpet in Gene Sallecks band. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson in 1960 and also graduated from Beckley College. He was a proud veteran serving over five years with the Air Force making Staff Sergeant. Okie was employed at the telephone company in Beckley for 24 years where he started as a lineman and then made supervisor. Mr. Thompson was an avid fisherman, hunter and marksman and loved boating at Lake Stephens. Okie loved old cars and was a member of Shade Tree Car Club and AACA Car Club. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his aunt, Mary Abbott. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Yvonne Sink Thompson; daughter, Kelly Dawn Thompson and friend Laurie Thompson of Clear Water, FL; son, Frank Charles Thompson of Lester, WV; sister, Nancy Truman (tom) of Beckley; brother John Thompson of Norfolk, VA; aunt, Catherine Holt and the Sink family. Born Sept 10, 1895 at Fayetteville, she was a daughter of the late Jim and Lucy Jane Smith. She is survived by six sons, Elmer, Ravenswood; Delbert of Oak Hill; Darrell and Eddie of Route 1, Fayetteville; Cline of Richwood; and James of Akron, Ohio; four daughters, Mrs. Jency Tincher, Mrs. Modena
Bragg and Mrs. Ruby McClung, all of Route 1, Fayetteville, and Mrs. Alice Toney of Barberton, Ohio, and 52 grandchildren. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. on June 25, 1970.4
