She was a member of Rosalind Hills Baptist Church, where she served as church hostess. Pauline retired from Salem Museum. She was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Batten; parents, Fountain and Archie Boulding; brother, Junious Boulding; sisters, Frances Turpin, Elizabeth Blankenship; great-niece, Jennifer Miles. She is survived by her son, Fred A. Batten, Roanoke; niece/daughter, Cornelia Boulding Saunders, Vinton; sister, Nonnie Hoskins, Vinton; special niece, Connie Powers, Bedford; special nephew, Charles Hoskins, Roanoke; great-nieces, Vickie Gordon, Libby Taylor; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 8, 2012, at Rosalind Hills Baptist Church with the Rev. Brad Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 from 4 until 8 p.m. and also two hours prior to the funeral at Rosalind Hills Baptist Church. The family would like to thank the staff on 8th Floor West at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital and to the staff at Raleigh Court Health and Rehabilitation Center. on March 7, 2012.3

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis (Ben) Turpin. Frances and Ben were owners and operators of several stores in the Vinton area for many years. She is survived by her two dedicated and loving sons, Riley L. Turpin and wife, Brenda, of Vinton, and Edward W. Turpin, who has resided with his mother for the last eight years. She is also survived by her grandchildren, the delights of her life, David Turpin, of Winter Park, Fla., and LeEtta Turpin Detrich and husband, James, of Dallas, Texas. She is also survived by her sisters, Pauline Batten, of Roanoke, and Nonnie Hoskins, of Vinton; special niece, Cornelia (Snokie) Saunders, of Vinton; and several other nieces and nephews. Also thank you to Patty Lewis, great-niece, for her care and concern. Mrs. Turpin was a long time member of Vinton Baptist Church. The family would like to express their gratitude to the Berkshire Health Care Facility for the heartfelt concern and care shown to the family in the final days of Mrs. Turpins life. A special thanks to Tammy Webb, CNA, for her special care of "The Golden Girls" in Unit One. She has a special way of brightening each day and bringing joy to those in her care. Brenda would also like to thank her dear friend, Donna Bryant, for her special care in the last two nights of Mrs. Turpins life. You were a God send to us. Nonnie was a faithful member and servant at Beaverdam Baptist Church in Chamblissburg where she taught young people, sang in the choir, served on various committees, and volunteered in the church office for many years. Survivors include her son, Charles Hoskins and wife Beth Ann, Roanoke; daughters, Connie Powers, Bedford, Kathy Bonham and husband Gary, Roanoke, Mary Martin and husband David, Roanoke, Martha Mays and husband Dan, Weddington, N.C., Jeannie McCoy and husband Tim, Roanoke; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great granddaughter, numerous nieces, nephews and friends including long-time, faithful friend Lois Sublette, Vinton. The family would like to especially thank Dr. Craig Mitchell for his many years of loving care to our mom and Granny. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, August 31, 2014at Beaverdam Baptist Church with the Rev. Edward P. Creel and Rev. Dennis Moore, and the Rev. Phil Hoskins of Kingsport, Tenn.,officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at Oakey's Vinton Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church on Sunday.
