     Rexford Lacy Acord Rexford Lacy Acord, age 93, of Beckley, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 2, 2013, at the Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley. Born on September 21, 1920, in Springdale, WV, he was the son of the late Andrew Lacy Acord and Viola Cook Acord. Mr. Acord was a member of the Flat Top Baptist Church at Flat Top, WV. Rex proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and was a veteran of WWII, having fought in five major battles in the South Pacific with the last being in Iwo Jima. He was retired from the Wells Plant at Wharton, WV, and had worked in the coal industry for many years. He was a proud member of the UMWA. Rex is survived by his wife Doris McQuillen Acord of Beckley, a daughter and son-in-law, Sandi Perrine and her husband Scott of Flowery Branch, Georgia, stepdaughter, Drema Stanley, and stepgranddaughter, Katie Stanley, stepgreat-granddaughter, Brittany Maiola, all of Beckley, stepgranddaughter, Amy Sowder of Wyoming County, stepson, Ernest Bennett of Beckley, stepgrandsons, Joel and Jason. Sisters, Virginia Faye Mullins and Sarah Inez French, both of Fort Pierce, Florida, brother Andrew Ruel Acord and his wife Helen of Cincinnati, Ohio, a nephew Donald T. Moore and his wife Raejean of Charleston, WV, special friends, Russell and Susan Dalton of Uneeda, WV, and his extra Special friend, his dog “Jake.” Mr. Acord was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Beatrice Seletyn Acord, by a granddaughter Michelle Lacy Perrine, and by a sister Thelma Ruth Moore. Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Tuesday, November 5, 2013, at 3:30 p.m. with Pastor Michael McQuillen officiating. Burial will follow at the Canaday Cemetery at Glen View, WV. Friends may visit with the family from 2:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Military Graveside rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post #32 Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Flat Top Baptist Church, P.O. Box 50, Flat Top, WV 25814.
