     Doris Lavon Marquand Doris Lavon (Marquand) Gross, age 86, passed away at her home on December 31, 2017 at 1:30 a.m. She was born to Howard and Sylvia (Tilly) Marquand on May 23, 1931 in Kokomo, IN. Doris was a 1949 graduate from Kokomo High School. She started working as a cashier for Indiana Bell Telephone. She married her first husband, Thomas V. Small in June 1950. She later worked as a medical receptionist and a medical transcriptionist in the lab at St. Joseph Hospital. After the death of her first husband, she married John M. Gross on November 5, 1965. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, sewing, being a talented artist and spending time with her family. Doris had a comical zest for life. She will be dearly missed. She is survived by her husband John, her four children; C. Lynn (Small) (Greg) Enstrom, Tamara (Small) (Don) Jarvis, Kelly (Gross) (Steve) Schaub, Brett (Kelli) Gross; a brother, Thomas (Janice) Marquand of Kendallville In., 11 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by a sister, Roberta Ross and a brother, Harry Marquand. A Celebration on Life will be held Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Ellers Mortuary Webster Chapel, 3400 South Webster Street at 2:30pm with Rev. Gregory Enstrom officiating.2 She was born on May 23, 1931 at Kokomo, Howard Co., Indiana.1,2 As of June, 1950,her married name was Small.2 She married Thomas Vernon Small, son of James Royce/Roy Small and Gwendolyn Gertrude Davenport, in June, 1950.2 Doris Lavon Marquand died on December 31, 2017 at Indiana at age 86.2

He was married on June 24, 1941, to Margaret Donat, who died July 26, 1980. He was a graduate of Galveston High School and the University of Virginia, where he majored in history and political science. After graduating he worked in the metallurgical department at Continental Steel Corp. and Sears Roebuck. He later entered his own business, Small's Heating and Plumbing, which became G.L Small Sheet Metal Inc., where he worked with his son, Jack. After retiring from the business, he traveled throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. He was a 50-year member of the Howard Masonic Lodge and was a member of Christ Lutheran Church. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His interests, in addition to his family, included travel, golf and his home, Sunnybrook Farm. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Emily and Fred Myers, Russiaville; one son and daughter-in-law, Mark Small and Sarah Dunlap, Indianapolis; a special friend, Ginny Sears, Kokomo; three granddaughters, Jodi Maddox and her husband, Brian, Kokomo, Jennifer Myers and Jamie Myers, both of Russiaville; three great-grandchildren, Corey Held, Caleb Maddox, Caylee Maddox; one brother and sister-in-law, Dallas and Margaret Small, Tuscon, Ariz; six sisters and one brother-in-law, Jean Favour, Zionsville, Virginia Lovings, Glendon Small, Riedsville, N.C; Lois Hannah, Beverly Howard, Treva and Salvatore Liali, Harriett Cassingham, all of Kokomo; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son, Jack Small, two brothers and one sister. Services are 10 a.m. Monday at Fenn & Shirley Mortuary, Colonial Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, with the Rev. Steve Cole officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery. on December 4, 1999.11

She also worked for the Indiana Department of Public Instruction and spent 28 1/2 years working as a school nurse in the Metropolitan School District of Martinsville before retiring in 1978, when then, she moved to Zionsville. Mrs. Favour was a member of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association, the Boone County Retired Teachers Association, Zionsville United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Women Alone and We Care groups, and the Meal-on-Wheels program. She is survived by her daughter, Joy Greenwalt and husband, Larry, of Zionsville; son, David Favour and wife Jane, of Round Rock, Texas; grandchildren, Michelle Greenwalt Vackar and husband, Bryan, of Carmel, Jodi Greenwalt McKenna and husband Brian, of Indianapolis, Ann Favour and Jeff Favour, both of Round Rock, Texas; great-grandchildren, Asher McKenna and Alexandra Vackar; sisters Harriet Cassingham of Kokomo, Trevia Liali of Kokomo, and Virginia Lovings of North Carolina. Her beloved husband, Hoyt W. Favour, preceded her in death. A service celebrating her life and faith will be held 12 p.m. Wednesday, November 10, in Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center, Zionsville, with visitation from 10 a.m. until the service. Burial will be at Sunset Memory Gardens, Kokomo, following the service. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Favour may be made to St. Vincent Hospice, Indianapolis or the American Heart Association. on November 8, 2004.2

     John Charles Small was buried at Crown Point Cemetery, 1101 East Sycamore St., Kokomo, Howard Co., Indiana.8,1,2,3 He was born on July 10, 1917 at Tipton Co., Indiana; His death certificate has a birth year of 1918.8,1,2,3 He married Helen Mae Connaway on April 24, 1946.1 John Charles Small died on May 4, 1947 at Monticello, White Co., Indiana, at age 29.8,1,2,3 He John Charles Small, 29, 1111 1/2 South Buckeye street, was drowned and Elvln Glassburn, 31, who lives with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Glassburn, northeast of Kokomo, was injured when an airplane owned by Glassburn and piloted by him dropped in the Tippecanoe river near Lake Freeman near Monticello about 9:30 o'clock Sunday morning. According to witnesses interviewed by Sergt E. J. Rhoda from the state police post and Sheriff Roudebush of White county, who investigated, the plane was flying low when it struck an electric light wire over the river, nosed down and turned over in the water. Glassburn was pulled out of the sinking plane by three men who were on the river in a boat and was taken to St. Joseph's hospital in Logansport, where he was reported to be conscious and in fair condition Monday. He suffered a broken leg and other injuries, the extent of which was not known immediately. The rescue was made by Nile Thompson or Monticello and John Ellis and Guy Whiteside, both of Indianapolis. Small's body was recovered about an hour after the crash, and was brought to the Fague & Fenn mortuary in Kokomo. Glassburn was reported to have dragged Small from the plane and held onto him while he swam 500 feet downstream, and lost his hold when rescuers were only 100 yards away. Small had suffered a broken arm and minor injuries, and was unable to continue swimming after Glassburn was forced to let go of him, witness said. Small was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ora Small and was born in Tipton county. His father preceded him in death. Surviving are the mother, Mrs. Irene Small, 1111 South Buckeye street; his wife, Mrs. Helen May Small; two brothers, Dallas and Glendon, both of Kokomo; seven sisters, Mrs. Asenath Hunter of Kokomo, Mrs. Jean Favor of New Albany, Mrs. Lois Hannah of Kokomo, Mrs. Virginia Loving of Reidsville, N.C., Mrs. Beverly Howard of Toccoa, Ga., Treva and Harriett, both at home, and grandfather, Charles Foster of Kokomo. A carpenter by trade, Small was a member of the Main Street Methodist church, the Fraternal Order of Police and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was married April 24, 1946, to Helen E. Connaway of Frankfort route 1. Both Small and Glassburn were fliers, Small taking F. I. training at Ruzicka Airport south of Kokomo on U.S. highway 31, and obtained his student permit there. He stopped his training last September. He has a private license and has kept his piano on his father's farm. The two men were said to be en-route to Michigan to obtain a lake cottage when the accident occurred. Both were in service in World War II. Funeral services for Small will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Main Street Methodist church, with the Rev. Fred R. Hill in charge. Military rites will be conducted by the V. F. W. and burial will be in Crown Point cemetery. The body will be returned from the Fague and Fenn funeral home to the home of the mother at 1111 South Buckeye street, where friends may call after 4 o'clock Monday afternoon. on May 5, 1947.1

Small and Irene Cynthia Foster, in 1934.1 Margaret Rosemary "Marge" Martin died on October 10, 2006 at Lakeside, Navajo Co., Arizona, at age 91.1,2 She Margaret "Marge" Small, 91, of Show Low died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006, at RTA Hospice and Palliative Care in Lakeside. Marge was born July 26, 1915, at Kokomo, Ind., the daughter of Garland and Dorothy (Jenkins) Martin. She was raised and attended school in Indiana, graduating from La Fontaine High School in 1934. She married Dallas Eugene Small in 1934. She came to Arizona 60 years ago, settling in Tucson, and worked as a nurse for many years. She came to Overgaard in 1987 and then Show Low in June, 2004. Marge enjoyed golf, helping at the Overgaard Senior Center and her grandchildren. She was of the Baptist faith. Marge is survived by two daughters, Janet (Jerry) Allen of Mesa and Kathy Wilson of Show Low; two sisters, Jennie Selley of Kokomo, Ind. and Jeri Roberts of Tucson; six grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sons, Phillip, Rodney and Bruce Small; sister, Madeline Sutton; brother, Garland (Bud) Martin and grandson, Guy Dewitt. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at Black's Mortuary Chapel, Show Low. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to RTA Hospice and Palliative Care, 1789 W. Commerce Drive, Lakeside, AZ 85929.
