A native and lifelong area resident, he was the son of the late Clinton and Glenna Perdue Mills. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Teresa Mills.Bruce is survived by his loving wife, Torri Maxey Mills; a son, Jason Maxey and his wife, Sonia; his brother, Andy Mills and wife, Tammy; two sisters, Connie Mills, and Becky Horne and husband Curtis; step-brother, Vernon Wheeler and wife, Debbie; step-sisters, Rita Furrow and Jackie Spangler, as well as his little dogs, Susie Q, Bella and Lil Fart.A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Big Spring Baptist Church. She attended St. Petersburg High School, St Pete, FL; King College, Bristol, TN; Presbyterian School of Christian Education, Richmond VA; UNC Charlotte, Charlotte, NC. She taught at many NC institutions of learning for various levels including: William H. Owen School, Fayetteville; Aycock Middle School, Greensboro; Mendenhall Jr High, Greensboro; Coulwood Middle School, Charlotte; J.M. Alexander Middle School, Huntersville; East Lee Middle School, Sanford; UNC Charlotte; Methodist College, Fayetteville. She is survived by her son, Elinos Alton Whitlock III (Jen); daughter, Martha Lois Whitlock Reed (Stan); daughter, Elizabeth Lois Whitlock Badgett (Edwin); son, David Ward Whitlock (Evelyn); seven Grandchildren, Logan Thomas Whitlock, Daniel Jackson Whitlock, Andrew Kent Whitlock, Elizabeth Teressa Reed, Benton Louis Reed, Robert Whitlock Badgett, Michelle Sarah Whitlock; and step-grandchildren, Patricia Kelly Phifer, Christian Thomas McArthur, Daniel Patrick McArthur, George Edwin Badgett, III. One great-grandchild Jace Kelvin Alejos Whitlock and step-great grandchildren. Stella had an adventurous soul, enjoying different cultures and cuisines in her travels around the world. Her intelligence and wit were evident in her writings, many of which were published. Her fun, competitive streak could be seen as she played many games with friends and family. She especially cherished her family, and looked forward to visits and the yearly Ocean Isle Beach trip.³ She was born on February 8, 1935 at Jacksonville, Duval Co., Florida.^2,3 As of June 6, 1958,her married name was Whitlock.² She married Rev. Elinos Alton Whitlock Jr., son of Elinos Alton Whitlock and Estella Jackson Yeatts, on June 6, 1958.^1,2,3,4 Stella Lois Ward died on August 13, 2021 at North Carolina at age 86.^2,3

     Hattie Sheehan/Shinn was born in July, 1875 at Missouri.³ As of October 17, 1893,her married name was Morton.¹ She married Hiram B. Morton, son of Warren C. "Cash" Morton and Rachel C. Gray, on October 17, 1893 at Johnson Co., Kansas.^3,1

     Bertha L. Morton was buried at Belton Cemetery, Cambridge Road just west of South Scott Avenue, Belton, Cass Co., Missouri.³ She was born in April, 1895 at Missouri.¹ As of April 21, 1913,her married name was Pugh.⁴ She married Vernon VanBuren Pugh on April 21, 1913 at Jackson Co., Missouri.⁴ Bertha L. Morton died in 1918 at Missouri.³

     Lydia M. Morton was buried at Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery, Phoenix, Maricopa Co., Arizona.^7,4 She was born in July, 1898 at Kansas.⁵ As of May 1, 1920,her married name was Welborn.³ She married Walter Jennings Welborn on May 1, 1920 at Jackson Co., Missouri.³ As of circa 1925,her married name was Obermeier.⁸ Lydia M. Morton married William Henry Obermeier circa 1925.^6,8,4 Lydia M. Morton died on August 23, 1939 at Maricopa Co., Arizona, at age 41.⁶ She Lydia M. Obermeier, 41 years old, a resident of Phoenix 13 years, died yesterday morning in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. tomorrow from the Merryman Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park. Mrs. Obermeier, who came here from Louisburg, Kan., was a native of Missouri. Her husband, W. H. Obermeier, died about four years ago. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Leah Vaughn Johnson, and a sister, Mrs. Mabel Voorhies, both of Denver, Colo., and two brothers, W. E. and C. D. Morton, both of Mohawk. on August 24, 1939.⁴
