She had been an invalid for several years, had only six weeks ago moved here from Corydon, Ia., to reside with her daughter. Born May 8, 1883, in Appanoose county, Iowa, daughter ot Frank and Ida McKern, she lived there most of her youth, marrying John Robinson in March, 1902, at home. They had lived at Corydon, Ia., since marriage. He preceded her in death 10 months ago. Surviving are one son, Gerald C. Corydon; three daughters, Miss Marie Robinson, Corydon, Mrs. F. M. Portner, Pasco, Wash., and Mrs. Sanders; and seven grandchildren. The body will be taken Monday night from Parrott & Wood funeral home here to Corydon, Ia., for funeral and burial. on November 26, 1945.4 She died on November 26, 1945 at Waterloo, Black Hawk Co., Iowa, at age 62.4

The funeral service was held Friday at the Evangelical United Brethren church in Moravia, and burial was made in West cemetery here. Mr. Sanderss had lived in the Unionville community for the past 25 years, having lived previously at Moravia. He is survived by his wife, Elgie; two sons, Robert of Waterloo and John of Ottumwa; a daughter, Mrs. Margaret Belt of Granite City, Illinois, who spent her girlhood here with her grandmother and the late Mrs. Rosa J. Terrell, mother of Mr. Sanders; four grandchildren and two step-daughters, Mrs. Eloise Glenn of Guda, Illinois and Mrs. Ruth Glosser of Blakesburg. on July 28, 1949.6

He had served as chief of police since the change in city administration in April of 1949, when he was appointed by mayor James Morrison. He was associated with the department for five years. A native of Green Top, Mo., Mr. Wales was born December 18, 1888. He had been a resident of Albia for 11 years. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. At Lewis Funeral Home, conducted by Dr. G. S. Bruland First Methodist Church, and burial will be in Oak View cemetery. Mr. Wales is survived by his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Eudora Dutemple of Albia, Mrs. Mary Masten of Hackensack, Minn., and Mrs. Joan Bates of Cedar Falls; a son, John, of Albia; and five grandchildren.2 He was born on December 18, 1888 at Greentop, Schuyler Co., Missouri. He married Elsie Mae McKern, daughter of Francis Allen 'Frank" McKern and Ida Eldora Main, on December 18, 1916 at Centerville, Appanoose Co., Iowa.1 Benjamin Harrison "Harry" Wales died on January 6, 1951 at Albia, Monroe Co., Iowa, at age 62.2

Visitation will open at 10:00 am and will be open until service time at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Oak View Cemetery. (Wales) Bates passed from this earthly world in Phoenix, Ariz., on June 22, 2008. Born on May 9, 1928, Jo was the youngest of four children born to Benjamin H. and Elsie M. Wales. She attended school in Albia and Chariton and married Robert Bates of Mystic in 1949. They made a life together for 35 years, settling in the Centerville area to raise their three children, John, Kristine and Jennifer. In the mid-1980s, Jo relocated to Phoenix, Ariz., where she worked as a scheduling clerk for the Maricopa County Superior Court. Upon retirement, she worked in Yosemite and Grand Canyon National Parks, and spent summers in Minnesota and Iowa visiting family and friends. In 2003, Jo moved to McCann Village in Newton where she was an active volunteer in the American Legion Auxiliary and the RSVP. She loved living in Arizona and returned there in 2006. Jo was preceded in death by her brother, John, and her sister, Mary. She is survived by her sister Eudora (Dody) Dutemple of Albia; her son, John (Laura) Bates of Centerville; two daughters, Kristine (Tim) Frakes of Granger and Jennifer Bates of Des Moines; three grandchildren, Abigail Bates, Alexandra Frakes and Adam Frakes; and several nieces and nephews. It was her wish that there be no memorial or graveside service. on July 1, 2008.4

She married John Welin Sept. 11, 1934, in Belvidere; he died in April 1965. She married Arthur Blakeslee in December 1975 in Florida; he died in September 1994. She was a farm wife for 30 years in the Belvidere area with husband John. Helen enjoyed sewing, crocheting, reading, and collecting angels. She was a member of the Shrine of the Master-Metaphy-sical Church in Sarasota, and Order of the Eastern Star-Sarasota chapter. Surviving are her children: Jerry Welin of Davis, Elaine (Joe) Rubeck of North Port, Fla., and Luetta "Lou" Hill of Davis; grandchildren, Larry (Valli Jo) Rubeck, David Rubeck, Dawn Meyers, Martin (Debbie) Welin, Ronald (Sherie) Welin, Kathy Wolf, Kristine (Doug) Graybill and Jonna (Tony) Morales; 14 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson. Also predeceased by three grandchildren, three brothers and two sisters; son-in-law, Ted Hill, Oct. 21, 2005; and daughter-in-law, Phyllis Welin. Inurnment will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11, in Belvidere Cemetery. on November 20, 2005.6
