Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008, at High Lawn Funeral Home, with Pastor Dan Smith officiating. She will be laid to rest at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill. Born September 4, 1931, at Arista, WV, she was a daughter of the late Guy and Allie Brown Swaggerty. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Helen loved BINGO, baking, and loved to work; she was a Ward Clerk at both the Mullens Hospital and Raleigh General Hospital. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bettes Wall; three sons, Harold, Tommy and Bobby Wall; sister, Alice Thomas; five brothers, Junior, Calvert, Ralph, Billy, and Cecil Swaggerty; and six grandchildren. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, with whom she made her home, Helen Hughes and husband, Denny, of Crab Orchard, daughter, Patty Hughes and husband, Oscar, of Helen, daughter, Carol Cadle and husband, Fred Jr., of Helen, son, Jerry Wall and wife, Shirl, of Bolt, son, Johnny Wall and wife, Shannon, of Lexington, NC, son, Bettes Lee Wall of Oak Hill, son, Raymond Wall and wife, Alice, of Kansas, daughter, Nancy Steverson of Beckley, daughter, Peggy Blankenship of Georgia, and Rhonda Cadle whom she loved like a daughter of Amigo; 37 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and special friends, Freda and Buddy McCall. Services to celebrate the Life of Helen Marie Wall will be held 1 p.m. Monday, December 24, 2012, at Williams-Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Sophia, with Brother Oakey Slate officiating. Helen will be laid to rest at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. on December 24, 2012.2

He was the owner of Chuck's Hardwood Floors and was a retired coal miner. He was retired from the Brothers of the Wheel. Charles enjoyed hunting. He faithfully served in the U.S. Air Force. He was preceded in death by his son, Charles L. Cook II; and three brothers, Mark Cook, C.E. "Bobby" Cook and James Frank Cook. Survivors include his wife, Betty Jane Sweeney Cook; a son, Charles Emery Cook at home; two daughters, Terri Deana Rakes and husband, Mark, of Oak Hill and Connie Susan Jennings and husband Danny Jr., of Beckley; a son, Robert Lee Cook and wife, Tina, of North Carolina; grandchildren, Steven, and Brian Lanham, Douglas and Desirae Thompson, Derian Jennings, Paige and Isaiah Cook; a brother, Paul Cook of Pineville; and five sisters, Brenda Cruikshank of Oak Hill, Judy Lucas of Oak Hill, Betty Kelly of Michigan, Kitty Frances of Surveyor and Tammy McClung of North Carolina. Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley, with Roger Lafferty officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Oak Hill VFW Post No. 3110. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Steven Lanham, Douglas Thompson, Ronnie McCormmick, Dale Drennen, Richard Stewart and Danny Jennings Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles "Chubs" Cook, Brian Lanham and Roy Lee Frances. Arrangements by Blue Ridge Funeral Homee, Beckley. on August 5, 2004.5

C.E. "Bobby" Cook, 27, of Ravencliff was shot with a 30.06 rifle "eight or nine days ago" at the home of Claude Perry, according to a spokesman for the Wyoming County Sheriff's Department Records indicate the shooting occurred Oct. 15, a Magistrate Court clerk said. Perry was originally charged with malicious wounding and released on bond. After Cook's death, the spokesman said, the charge was upgraded to murder. Perry is now being held in the Wyoming County Jail. Cook was a self-employed construction worker. Surviving: son, Gene of Minden; daughter, Carley of Ravencliff; mother, Ruby M. Wall Cook of Oak Hill; brothers, Luther C. of Oak Hill, James F. of Bolt, Nathan P. of Ravencliff; sisters, Brenda Warrick and Judith Lucas, both of Oak Hill, Betty Kelly of Dearborn Heights, Mich., Kitty Francis of Surveyor, Tamela McClung of South Carolina. Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Prosperity, with the Rev. Lewis Maynard officiating. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity. on October 25, 1990.3
