He had been a resident of Eccles for the past 37 years and was employed in the Eccles mines prior to his retirement. He was also a member of the UMWA Local 5770. Survivors include his wife. Mrs. Delia Marie Gravely Acord, at home; a daughter, Mrs. Claude (Pauline Elizabeth ) Stump. MacArthur: two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Acord, Eccles. and Mrs. Flossie Acord, Bolt; and five grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Denver. Charles (Buck) and Carl (Buddy) Acord, Dale Wright, James Jones and Billy Gravely. on October 24, 1975.4

Born on August 5, 1927, in Metalton, she was the daughter of the late Henry Copetz and Della Gravely Acord and was the stepdaughter of the late Snowden Acord. Mrs. Stump was a homemaker, and was a member of Mabscott Holiness Church. She enjoyed "spoiling" her grandchildren, and spending time with all of her family. Mrs. Stump was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Stump Sr., and a son, Frankie Stump. Those survivors left to cherish her memory include her children: Claude Stump Jr. and his wife Cathy of MacArthur, Ernie Stump and his companion Kim Miller of Eccles, Lois McNeely and her husband Allen of Summerville, SC, Stevie Stump and his wife Dana of Cool Ridge, and Annie Lilly and her husband Don of MacArthur. Grandchildren: Timothy Gross of SC, Thomas Gross of MacArthur, who made his home with her and was her caregiver, and Skye and Hallie Stump of Cool Ridge. Great-grandchildren, Savannah Gross, Jamison and Justice Gross, Jessie Slavey, Seth Gross, and Damian Shively. Also Robert and Eric Lowery of Beckley, whom she helped raise, also survives. The family would like to thank a very special caregiver Marcella Williams. Burial will follow at the Canaday Cemetery at Glen View, WV. on January 23, 2016.1

Born Jan. 3, 1923, at Fitzpatrick, he was the son of the late John Swanson Stump and Carrie Smith Stump. Mr. Stump was a retired coal miner from Westmoreland Coal Company with 36 years of service, and was a member of the UMWA. He was a lifelong resident of the Beckley area, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, and a member of the Church of God Worship Center at MacArthur. Mr. Stump enjoyed gardening, Hunting, fishing and baseball. He was Preceded in death by two brothers, Gary and Tommy Stump; a sister, Virginia Parsons, and a son-in-law, Larry Hardbarger. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Pauline Gravely Stump; three sons, Claude J. Stump Jr. and his wife, Cathy, of Old Eccles Road, Beckley, Ernie Stump of MacArthur, and Steven Stump and his wife, Dana, of Cool Ridge; a daughter, Anna Stump Hardgarger and her fiancé, Don Lilly, of MacArthur; two brothers, William "Bud" Stump and his wife, Martha, of MacArthur, and Ted Stump and his wife, Clara, of Beckley; three sisters, Louise Pitzer and her husband, Clint of Long Bottom,Ohio, and Phyllis Prunest and her husband, Lloyd of Mabscott, and Ina Molam of Beckley; four grandchildren, Skye and Hallie Stump, and Timmy and Tommy Gross; two children he helped rear, Robert Lowery of Jacksonville, Fla., and Eric Lowery of Beckley; and his mother-in-law, Della Acord of Eccles Worship Center, MacArthur, with Pastor Mark Schrade and the Rev. Jessie Farley officiating. Burial will follow in Canaday Cemetery, Glen View, Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Sophia VFW Post NO. 4326. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Elder, Eric Lowery, Jimmy Jones, Don Lilly, James Sanger Jr., and Lloyd Prunest. on September 16, 1998.5

Other survivors include his wife, Anna Stump Hardbarger of Beckley; two daughters, Kimberly Hope and Kathy Jean Hardbarger, both of Crab Orchard; two sisters, Mrs. Jim (Nancy) Hurley, Jr. of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla , and Debbie Fleshman of Costa Mesa, Calif; two nieces; two nephews, and a special friend, Frances Hardbarger. Burial will be in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity. Pallbearers will be Barney Light, Rudy Hall, Claude Stump, Jr., Ron Hunter, Ernie Stump, and Arnold Lucas. Military graveside rites will be conducted by members of the VFW and the Ladies Auxiliary Post 4326 at Midway. on November 18, 1990.5
