He was a faithful member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Christiansburg. He is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Katie Nolley Willard; two daughters, Rita Willard O'Rourke of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Lynn Willard Ward of North Tazewell, Virginia; two sons, Garry Thomas Willard and Barry Wallace Willard, of Christiansburg; three sisters, Reba Willard Lawrence, Mary Catherine Willard Lutz and Mildred Willard Walters, all of Christiansburg; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 Monday evening at the Horne Funeral Home, Christiansburg. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Sebert Rorrer with interment to follow in Sunset Cemetery. Since Sam loved dogs so much, the family suggests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Humane Society, 1183 Flannagan Drive, Christiansburg, Va. 24073. Jack was born on September 2, 1939 in Riner, Va. He was preceded in death by his parents Garnett and Beulah Martin, wife, Norma J. Martin and oldest brother, James "JB" Martin (Doris). He is survived by his son, Steve S. Martin and wife, Jennifer D. Martin; one brother, Stanley G. Martin (Ellen); one sister, Peggy M. Smith (JD) and numerous nieces and nephews. Jack was a wonderful husband, father and friend. He grew up in small town Riner, where he spent most of his youth playing sports and working on a farm. He graduated from Auburn High school in 1958, shortly after graduation he enrolled into the United States Army. After his discharge from the Army he married his high school sweetheart. Jack was a former Fire Chief and honorary lifetime member of Riner Volunteer Fire Department. He spent his working years as a small business owner, running Riner Food Center and then Riner Small Engine. In his retirement years he and his lifelong friend Walter Knowles were avid ground hog hunters. The Martin family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Pulaski Health & Rehabilitation Center, along with special friends, Jean Trump and family, Fran Tieleman, Bill Pack, the late Stanley and Virgnia Perdue and Chuck Fugate. Internment will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens. on August 25, 2022.5
