He is preceded in death by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 71 years, Frances M. Barnett and a brother, Robert O. "Bee" Barnett Sr. He was born in Princeton, W.Va. to the late Thomas and Anne C. Barnett. Ralph was a devoted and active member of Grandin Court Baptist Church for 58 years. He graduated from the first class of Andrew Lewis High School in 1935 and was a retired superintendant at Valley Roofing Co. Surviving are his daughter, Suzanne; nephew, Robert O. Barnett Jr; sisters-in-law, Trudy Barnett Good, Helen Deck, Rita Richardson, Bertie Selvey and Nancy F. Martin; brother-in-law, Bill Selvey; and many nieces and nephews. A special thank you to Rita, Gene and Cindy, who stuck with him until the end. The family would like to give a special thank you to Loretta Greenway, who cared for Ralph over two years, and Rosa Lee Hannabass. The family would like to also thank the Good Samaritan Hospice for all their care and the volunteers also, Michelle and Marie. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Grandin Court Baptist Church. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 30, 2012, at Grandin Court Baptist Church with Dr. Kevin Meadows and the Rev. Charles Krause officiating. Interment will be in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. on July 30, 2012.4

A retired yard engineer for the Virginian and Norfolk & Western railroads, he was a faithful and devoted life-long member of Roanoke's First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and a tenor in the Chancel Choir and Heritage Singers. He also enjoyed traveling with the X.Y.Z.'s, and participated in musical activities in area retirement homes, especially singing for and with friends at Park Oak Grove Retirement Home. An active Kiwanian, in recent years he served as President and Program Chair of the South Roanoke Chapter. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Music Ministry of First Baptist Church, 515 Third St., S.W., Roanoke, Va. 24016; or a charity of one's choice. A service commemorating and celebrating his life will be conducted at First Baptist Church on Tuesday, December 16, 2003, 1 p.m., with the Rev. John Cochran and Dr. James Austin officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday, 11:30 a.m. until service time, at First Baptist Church. on December 15, 2003.3
