She was born January 4, 1936, in Callaway, Va., to the late Ernest James and Ida Mae Prillaman. She was an active, devout and dedicated member of Piedmont Presbyterian Church since 1948, where she was a member of the choir, served as church historian, worked with Activity Hour, and a member of Piedmont's Womens Day Circle. After graduating from Radford College, she taught school in Callaway for 12 years and served as a secretary for the Continuing Education Center for 12 years. Lucy also worked as a bookkeeper for Sydney's Department Store for eight years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Nelson A. Prillaman and Isaac Clay Prillaman; an infant sister, Rachel Marie Prillaman; nieces Cecelia Delong and Alesia Hope Prillaman; and two nephews, Glenn M. (Sonny) Prillaman Jr. and Gene Prillaman (surviving Gene is his wife, Barbara, of Richmond). Surviving Lucy are two brothers, James Wendell Prillaman and wife, Lorena, of Roanoke, and Glenn M. Prillaman, of Callaway; three nieces and spouses, Sherryl and Bill Hankins, of Forest, Beth and Jim Lewis, of Albemarle, N.C., and special niece and caretaker, Teresa Hill (Harold), of Callaway; four nephews and spouses, Gerald Prillaman (Doris), of Salem, Charles Prillaman (Barbara), of Dracut, Mass., James W. Prillaman (Sharon), of Vinton, and Randall Clay Prillaman (Rebecca), of Kingsport, Tenn; one aunt, Irene Steppe, of Lynchburg; one uncle, Thomas Jackson Prillaman, of Vinton; and several great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and church friends. He was born on October 16, 1933, to the late Ernest James and Ida May Prillaman of Callaway, Va. Wendell was also preceded in death by his wife, Lorena Orfield Prillaman, and his daughter, Alesia Hope Prillaman. He leaves behind his sons, James Wendell Prillaman Jr. and wife, Sharon, of Vinton, Va., and Randall Clay Prillaman and wife, Rebecca, of Kingsport, Tenn; his grandchildren, James Tyler Prillaman and Ryan Jacob Prillaman of Vinton, Va; his brother, Glen Milton Prillaman of Callaway, Va; and many nieces and nephews. Wendell worked most of his life as a clerk for Norfolk Southern Railroad where he found a passion for trains. After retiring, he delivered mail part time, watched and reported weather conditions as an enthusiast, and spent time with his family. The family extends a "Special Thank You" to the staff at Salem Terrace at Harrogate for their compassion and kindness over the past four years caring for Wendell. Interment will follow at Mountain View Memorial Park, 5970 Grassy Hill Road in Boones Mill, Va. on November 30, 2023.7
