Medical Center in Salem. He was born January 7, 1924, in Schoolfield and was a son of the late Durham L. and Selma Yeatts Hardison. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd Hardison. He served in World War II from 1943 to 1945, and during the Korean Conflict, including as a sergeant with the 157th Engineering Combat Battalion. During his enlistment he served in Japan, Korea, Europe and Germany. He received two honorable discharges for his 13 years of military service and was awarded the European, African, the Middle Eastern Croix De Guerre, and the World War II Korean service medal with two bronze stars. After his discharge, he operated Cobblestone Builders, a construction company in Roanoke. He was a member of Blue Hills Golf Club in Hollins until 2005. Surviving are his wife, Nettie DeHart Hardison of Floyd; one daughter, Cynthia H. Moran of Floyd; one son, Richard Hardison of Floyd; one stepdaughter, Darlene Cockram of Meadows of Dan; one sister, Iris H. Doss of Martinsville; and one granddaughter. on January 26, 2007.2

Most importantly he was a husband to Lorena Era Iona Sowder, née Bilyeu; Father to three sons, Brett Alan and wife Donna, Loyd Eugene and wife Karen, and James Adam and wife Sandra; as well as, one daughter Aimee Belinda Elizabeth Sowder and wife Suzanne Gilreath. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Jarrett Alan Sowder, Anthony James Willard, Jacob McKinley Willard and wife Ginny, Samantha Elaine Sowder, Tedrick Roland Sowder, and Henry Logan Sowder; and one great grandchild Travis Cole Willard. Jim was born in Hot Springs, VA on July 14, 1942. He was preceded in death by his father the Rev. Eugene Sowder and his mother Annie Mae Sowder, née Lawson.
