Evelyn Oneter Vest died on June 8, 2018 at Christiansburg, Montgomery Co., Virginia, at age 91.^10,9 She Evelyn Vest King 91, of Christiansburg, passed away Friday, June 08, 2018. She was born November 26, 1926 in Floyd County Va. to the late Brethard William and Susie Ann Collins Vest. She is also preceded in death by her loving husband, Raymond William King. Left to cherish her memory are son, Douglas King; brother, Alvin Vest; sisters-in-law, Mae Vest and Erma Jean Vest. She is also survived by many wonderful nieces; nephews; and their families. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg, Va. on June 11, 2018.⁹

     John Henry Swope was buried at Copper Hill Church of the Brethren Cemetery, 8838 Floyd Hwy N. US Hwy 221, Copper Hill, Floyd Co., Virginia.² His Social Security Number was 227-24-4453.³ He married Margie Ann Hale, daughter of William Horace Hale and Myrtle Tida DeWeese.^4,5,6 John Henry Swope was born on May 13, 1928.³ He died on December 3, 1998 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 70.^3,2 He SWOPE, John H., 70, of Roanoke, died at his residence on Cresthill Dr. Thursday, December 3, 1998. Mr. Swope was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from the Armour Company. He is survived by his wife, Anne M. Swope; a son and daughter-in-law, Wes and Shari Swope, Roanoke; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and John Stanley, Ackworth, Ga; stepson, James N. King; stepdaughter, Carolyn Young and husband, Bruce, Roanoke; additional stepchildren include LeAnne Nolan, Terri Robertson, and David Nolan, all of Roanoke. Mr. Swope is also survived by a sister, Lila Armentrout, Covington. Mr. Swope 's grandchildren include Daniel Barnes, Michael Swope , and Katie Young, all of Roanoke, and Melissa Stanley, Ackworth, Ga. Mr. Swope was an attentive grandfather to six stepgrandchildren, all of Roanoke; Michael, Jason, Erin, and Jacob Nolan, Brandon and Berkeley Robertson. Mr. Swope is also survived by a special friend, "Gus". Services will be at Oakey's South Chapel 10 a.m. Monday, December 7, 1998. The Rev. Gene Burris will officiate. Interment will follow in Copper Hill Cemetery, Floyd County. Friends may call at Oakey's South Chapel from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday. on December 5, 1998.²

     Bruce H. Young married Carolyn A. King, daughter of James Nathan King Sr. and Margie Ann Hale.^1,2,3 Bruce H. Young was born on September 30, 1948.⁵ He died on May 28, 2012 at Virginia at age 63.^5,4 He Bruce H. Young, 63, of Roanoke, went to be with his heavenly Father on Monday May 28, 2012. He is preceded in death by his parents, Odis and Lorraine Young. Mr. Young was an active member of Cave Spring United Methodist Church, where he served as lay minister and treasurer. He worked at Davidson's for over 30 years and then worked for Roanoke City Schools as Purchasing Manager. Survivor's include his wife, Carolyn; the love of his life, his daughter, Katie; sisters, Kathy Johnson and husband, George Haupt, Collinsville, Susan Melson and husband, A.G., Roanoke; brothers-in-law, Jimmy King, Wes Swope; sister-in-law, Sharon Stanley; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday, May 31, 2012, at Oakey's South Chapel with the Revs. Ronnie Morris and John Hemming officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.      Vernia Catherine Duncan Vernia Duncan Ferguson, 91, of Roanoke went home to be with the Lord Saturday, September 7, 2019. She was preceded by her husband, Henry W. Ferguson, Jr; daughter, Faye Thomas; parents, Arthur and Alice Duncan; and a sister, Minnie (Hugh) Payne. Vernia will long be remembered by her family as the best mom ever. Surviving are her children, Cecil (Georgia) Ferguson, Carolyn (Mark) Caldwell, Tammy (Ronald) Nichols, and Billy Thomas; grandchildren, Missy Stiltner, Chris (Rhonda) Perdue, Carl Perdue, Kathryn (Nathan) St.Clair, Jennifer Ferguson, Mark (Angie) Caldwell, Jr., Adam (Kim) Caldwell, and Allyson (James) Carter; great grandchildren, Donald Perdue, Devin and Heather Perdue, Nathan St.Clair, Jr., Trevor St.Clair, Stormie Lampert and Maddie Boos, Timothy Caldwell, Justin, Ben and Emorie Caldwell; and one great great grandchild, Allie Perdue. The family would like to offer a very special thank you to the staff of Carilion Hospice (especially Nathan and Jessie) for their many acts of care and compassion. She was dedicated to her family and her life revolved around her grandchildren. She also enjoyed crocheting. Faye was preceded in death by her father, Henry W. Ferguson, Jr. Surviving are her mother, Vernia Catherine Ferguson; her husband of 33 years, Billy Wayne Thomas; her four children, Melissa Stiltner, William Carlton Perdue, Christopher Allen Perdue and his wife, Rhonda, and Katherine St Clair and her husband, Nathan; six grandchildren, Donald, Kelsey, Nathan, Jr., Devin, Trevor and Heather; a brother, Cecil Ferguson and his wife, Georgia; two sisters, Carolyn Caldwell and her husband, Mark, Tammy Nichols and her husband, Ronald; and many other loving relatives and friends also survive. on December 22, 2008.⁴

     Berry Wilford Vest was buried at Wilson Cemetery, Daniel's Run Road (Rt. 661), Locust Grove, Floyd Co., Virginia.^4,10 He was born on April 11, 1932 at Floyd Co., Virginia.^1,10,5 He married Erma Jean Lawrence, daughter of Hubert Lee Lawrence and Bernie Link, on March 24, 1951 at Montgomery Co., Virginia.^{1,11,2,3,12,13,14,4} Berry Wilford Vest died on June 16, 2015 at Check, Floyd Co., Virginia, at age 83.^4,10 He Berry Wilford Vest, 83, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at his home in Check, Va. after a long battle with heart disease. Wilford served his country in the United States Army in Germany for three years. He retired from the Radford Army Ammunition Plant in 1994, and then took a part-time position with Professional Communications for nine years where he made many lasting friendships. Wilford loved working with wood, and always stayed busy in his yard, garden or shop while he was well. He was preceded in death by his parents, Brethard and Susie Vest; his brothers, Warren, Clinton, Junior, Otha Dean Vest; and a son-in-law, Kenneth Sowers. He is survived and loved by his wife of 64 years, Erma J. Lawrence Vest; and their three daughters, Janice (Matthew Van) Angle, Connie Sowers, and Geraldine (Ronald) Hollandsworth; six wonderful grandchildren, Shawn, Shannon (Lori) Angle, Jennifer (Chris) Gardner, Julie (David) Wade, Stephanie (Dale) Nelson, Hilary Hollandsworth; special great-grandchildren, Hunter and Granger Angle, Bo Gardner, Morgen, Kenny and Nora Wade, and Averie Nelson. He is also survived by his sister, Evelyn King and a brother, Alvin (Mae) Vest; and many nieces and nephews. Interment will follow at the Wilson Cemetery with graveside military rites conducted by Floyd V.F.W. Post # 7854 and Floyd American Legion Post # 127.
