Marjorie Grace "Margie" Sumpter Marjorie Grace Sumpter Drumheller, 94, of Lynchburg, went to be with her Lord and Savior on the morning of Tuesday, December 24, 2015, after a long illness. Marjorie was born in the town of Floyd, Virginia, in the summer of 1921 (July 18). She was one of 11 children born to James Hardy Sumpter Sr. and Addie Harmon Sumpter. Marjorie graduated from Floyd County High School in Floyd, Virginia before attending the Virginia Baptist School of Nursing in Lynchburg, Virginia. After graduating from nursing school in 1944 she was one of the first nurse volunteers to help with the polio epidemic in Mississippi. Marjorie loved nursing and her patients loved her. After a brief move to Texas in the 1950's Marjorie returned to Lynchburg and continued her nursing career as the Head Nurse in the Labor and Delivery Room at Lynchburg General Hospital. When Lynchburg General merged with Virginia Baptist Hospital Marjorie continued her love of delivering babies at Virginia Baptist Hospital until her retirement. Marjorie was very proud to represent the third district to the 77th Annual Virginia Nurses Association convention. Marjorie's biggest love in life was serving her family. She dearly loved all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She cared for, loved and prayed over all of us with a passion only a mother could have. While no longer here she still watches over us. Church life and faith were very important to Marjorie. She was a dedicated and active member of Beulah Baptist Church for 55 years. Attendance was mandatory whenever the doors were open. She was excited to be asked to represent her church and attend the Southern Baptist Convention as a voting delegate.Marjorie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, John Quentin Drumheller in 2011. Marjorie was also preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters. Marjorie leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her brother, Robert M. Sumpter of Raleigh, N.C; her children, Ann Quentin Drumheller Mann and her husband, James of Lynchburg, Va., and Robert Sumpter Drumheller of Snellville, Ga; her grandchildren, Marjorie Ann Hillman of Hillsborough, N.H., Anne Marie Flynn of Concord, Va, Erin Kathleen Colson of Lincoln, Neb., Jason Drumheller of Cleveland, Ohio, Daniel Drumheller of Snellville, Ga., and Sarah Johnson of Loganville, Ga., Eric Mann, Tony Mann, and Jason Mann of Appomatox, Va; her great-grandchildren, James Thomas Thurman, Holly Ann Morris, Damon Anderson, Dillon Anderson, Devin Anderson, Maddy Anderson, Justin Colson and Kenny Colson; great-great-grandchildren, Bradley Morris and Aiden Thurman.
