Surviving are a son, E. George White, Waycross, Ga; her mother, Mrs. Cora Hall Sutton, Port Tobacco Md; sisters, Mrs. Leon Brown, Braemer, Tenn., Mrs. Howard Slauson and Mrs. William B. Caldwell, both of Orlando, Mrs. Henry Broom DeMott and Mrs. George Van Veer, both of Port Tobacco, and Mrs. Joel Belknap, Charleston, W. Va; brother, Harry L. Sutton, Orange, Tex., and four grandchildren. Fairchild Funeral Home is in charge. on November 20, 1961.5 She died on November 20, 1961 at Orlando, Orange Co., Florida, at age 67.5,9,7

Survivors include his wife, Mildred G. Sutton of Orange, Tex; two daughters, Janet Edlich of Roanoke, Va., and Louise Miller of Hendersonville, Tenn; a sister, Frances Avigne of Ft. Pierce; and seven grandchildren. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Orange, with burial in Hlllcrest Memorial Gardens in Bridge City, Texas. on January 5, 1979.9

Best, Jr; daughter-in-law, Caroline Best; and three grandchildren, Sarah Best Campbell, Katherine Best, and John Best. A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2002 at New Providence Presbyterian Church. Pastors officiating include Emily J. Anderson. Her ashes will be placed in the New Providence Cemetery by the family prior to the service. on May 31, 2002.5

While teaching Sociology at Maryville College from 1946 to 1955, she received the M.A. degree in Sociology from University of Tennessee. In 1955, Archie accepted a position with the Presbyterian church in New York City where Mary Gladys received the M.L.S. from Columbia University. From 1956 until her retirement in 1980, she held positions of increasing responsibility with the New York Public Library. Mary Gladys and Archie retired to Maryville where she was active with the American Association of University Women, Maryville College Library Archives, Third Friday Book Club, and Presbyterian Women at New Providence Presbyterian Church. Preceded in death by: parents, husband, sister Lynn Ann Best and brother George S. Brown. Survived by: nephews, Edwin J. Best, Jr. (Caroline), Maryville, TN; Lynn W. Brown (Joellen), Elizabethton, TN; Sutton Brown (Beverly), Hampton, TN. Mary Gladys is also survived by: sisters-in-law, Mary Emma Brown, Johnson City, TN, and Alice Pieper Carter (George), Baltimore, MD and seven nieces and nephews.      Harriett Julia "Hattie" Cook was buried at McKean Memorial Park, Lafayette, McKean Co., Pennsylvania.4,3 She was born on April 2, 1885 at Cooksburg, Forest Co., Pennsylvania; Her death certificate has a birth date of Apr 21, 1885.1,2,4,3 As of June 15, 1904,her married name was Finnefrock.3 She married Edward Joshua Finnefrock on June 15, 1904 at Brookville, Jefferson Co., Pennsylvania.2,3,5,6 Harriett Julia "Hattie" Cook died on December 30, 1940 at Kane, McKean Co., Pennsylvania, at age 55.2,4,3 She Mrs. E. J. Finnefrock, well-known resident of Kane for almost 40 years, succumbed to an illness of complications at the Community hospital at 12:32 o'clock this morning. Mrs. Finnefrock had been in ill health for the past two months and was stricken seriously ill last Thursday when she was taken to the hospital. Despite her illness, she had been able to be about, visiting relatives in Warren over Christmas. Her death came as a shock to her many friends who were unaware of the critical nature of her last illness. Mrs. Finnefrock was born Harriet Julia Cook at Cooksburg, April 2, 1885. She resided at that place until her marriage to E. J. Finnefrock, June 15, 1904, at Brookville. The couple came here in November of that year, opening a grocery store which remains in business at the same location on Maple street. Until recently she was active in numerous women's organizations of the First Methodist church and a member of the Women's Benefit association. Besides her husband, she is survived by the following sons and daughters: Larue, of Kane; Mrs. Lucile Strubel and Mrs. Gladys McElwain, of Warren; a nephew residing at home, Gale Cook and one grandchild, Lola Jayne Struble of Warren. Also surviving are four brothers, Robert and E. B. Cook of Cooksburg; W. H. Cook, Youngstown, O., and Jess Cook of Chicora. A prayer service will be held from her late home Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock followed by funeral rites from the First Methodist church. Interment will be in McKean County Memorial park. on December 30, 1940.3
